ADACCE raise your complaint with the European Commissioner for Maritime Affairs Ms. Damanaki (04/05/2010)

ADACCE Association of people affected by the closure of the Canal del Estacio has approached the European Commissioner for Maritime Affairs Ms. Maria Damanaki in order to help solve the serious problem of traffic and safety of the yachts in their access to ten marinas on the marine resort of Mar Menor, Murcia (Spain).

The navigation channel Estacio, they tell you, is the only navigable channel through which you can access these ports on the Inland Sea.

There on the canal, a bridge built in 2003 on a local road that provides access to new urban developments in the north of La Manga del Mar Menor which has endured in recent years a strong real estate speculation fueled by local authorities.

On March 1, the Mayor of San Javier, Local Authority responsible for maintaining the service the weighbridge of Estacio decided, citing lack of funds in the municipality, to stop, so it blocked the "de facto" traffic of yachts Vela due to the small height of this infrastructure (seven meters) that only allows passage of small motor boats.

As a result a number of boats in excess of two thousand one hundred and fifty units and flagged vessels from nine countries in the union have been locked in its internal sea moorings and boats wishing to access from the Mediterranean Sea have not been able to enter none of these ten ports, some of them in need of help with problems in their hulls, rigging or engines.

After protests elevated to the RHAs and State, reports ADACCE European Commissioner, they have not acted with diligence to restore the situation to normality and remove restrictions on illegal maritime traffic through the Canal.

Starting on March 17, 2010 the municipality informed the bridge would open half an hour, twice a day (at 10.00 hours and 19.00 hours) for the disposal of vessels blocked but the minimum opening half time 24 hours a day alone not only will not solve the fundamental problem is the violation of the rights of boaters who is a pre-existing right to build the bridge but worsening traffic safety and the dangers Channel for human life at sea, forcing the ships to a dangerous concentration in time and space with serious risk of collision is so narrow that the channel and the high current in it.
