Groups of the Region of Murcia, Canary Islands and Portugal will walk their folklore through San Javier this weekend (19/06/2019)

Folk groups of the Towers of Cotillas, Algezares, San Javier, Tenerife and Portugal will participate in the 32nd International Folklore Festival of San Javier that takes place during the next weekend, from June 21 to 23, in the Plaza de España de San Javier and the Paseo Colon de Santiago de la Ribera.

The councilman of Culture, David Martinez accompanied by the mayor of Festejos, Isidoro Miñano and the group of Choirs and Dances Mar Menor, of San Javier, who acts as host, presented this morning on the balcony of the City Council, the Festival that includes two gala on Friday, June 21 and Saturday, June 22, and an exhibition on Paseo Colon on Sunday 23.

The gala on Friday 21 will begin at 10pm with the participation of the Peña "La Esparteña" groups, from Algezares;

peña "Rincon Pulpitero", from Las Torres de Cotillas and "Mar Menor Choirs and Dances", from San Javier.

On Saturday night will play the group Folklore School of Adeje, Tenerife and Rancho Folclórico Cravos e Rosas do Alentejo de Orada, Portugal, and the host group.

The formations of Tenerife and Portugal will return to perform on Sunday at 8pm on the Paseo Colon de Santiago de la Ribera.

David Martinez announced that this year there will be no huertano enclosure to coincide with the celebration of Corpus Christi in the same square in Spain, although there will be a live performance of the craft of the garden during the two hours before the start of each gala in the same square, with the collaboration of the Artisans Guild of the Region of Murcia.

Martínez thanked the involvement of the Mar Menor Choir and Dance group of San Javier, organizer of the Festival together with the San Javier City Council for 32 years, and their work together with the rest of the participating formations in the maintenance of such an important part of the culture of the towns like the folklore.

Carmen Campillo, from the Mar Menor Choirs and Dances group, highlighted the quality and variety of the participating groups of the Region as well as visitors such as Adeje, with whom they have already held an exchange and Alentejo, in Portugal, where the group of San Javier will travel the first week of July.

San Juans night

The councilman of Celebrations, Isidoro Miñano was added to the celebration of the traditions including the celebration of the Night of San Juan, that coincides this weekend and remembered that in San Javier it will be celebrated on Sunday, June 23, starting at 9:30 p.m. with a concert Tribute to the 80s and a fireworks display at 00: 00h.

In Santiago de la Ribera there will be a previous afternoon from 6pm on the Barnuevo esplanade, with live music by Panther and Dj's animation until the early hours with the burning of the bonfire on the beach at midnight.

In La Manga del Mar Menor, the esplanade of the urbanization Las Palmeras, km.14 will host a live concert and several surprises on the night of Saturday 22 from 10 pm and on Sunday 23 there will be a great festival of San Juan with bonfire , music, juggling, photocall, and "lots of magic", organized by the Association of Culture, Sports and Leisure La Manga del Mar Menor with the collaboration of the City of San Javier, Cartagena and La Manga Consortium.
