Danish pianist Niels Lan Doky, one of the most prominent European jazz musicians, will open the penultimate night of the San Javier Jazz Festival with his fantastic piano, double bass and drums trio.

With more than twenty albums published as leader, Niels Lan Doky is considered by critics as one of the most convincing disciples of Bill Evans, and in his compatriot the bassist Niels-Henning Orsted Pedersen, with whom he worked for several years, He found a decisive mentor in his career.

Another essential name in his life was the trumpeter Thad Jones, with whom he began working with only 15 years before traveling to Boston to study at the Berklee College of Music, recommended by Jones himself.

Niels Lan Doky ended up settling for a long time in New York where he played with the American jazz elite such as Al Foster, Bill Evans, John Scofield, Al Jarreau, Randy Brecker and Charlie Haden, among many others.

He also had his own group "The Doky Brothers" with his brother the great bassist Chris Minh Doky.

His melodic touch and his strong romantic personality as an interpreter are outstanding features of Niels Lan Doky, an undisputed benchmark of European jazz.

The second concert of the night will be of those who make history with the presence of the absolute king of the funk, the saxophonist and singer Maceo Parker, willing to leave no one in the seat, a mission to which his own band contributes, considered unanimously " the best funk band on the planet. "

Maceo Parker visited Jazz San Javier for the last time in 2003, so there are many expectations to see again this live music giant that was at the origin of the modern funk that was cooked in the great James Brown band of which was part of the 60s.

In the mid-1970s, Maceo Parker joins George Clinton and his band Parliament Funkadelic where he participated in the birth of P-Funk.

His tours with Prince, who called him "the teacher" and collaborations with artists such as Ray Charles, James Taylor, or Red Hot Chilli Peppers, among many others, contributed to spread the legend of this legendary musician, who with 75 years It is the living essence of funk.

From the 90s Maceo Parker begins to lead his own projects with his own discography in which the admired "Life on Planet Groove" recorded live.

Now he has just published his first studio album for 12 years and is a declaration of intentions "It's All About Love" in which he has made versions of songs by Johnnie Taylor, Stephen Stills or Stevie Wonder, in an album whose theme is love.

His famous formula: "2% jazz and 98% funk" continues to work for this unique artist whose main objective is that people "enjoy and dance" with their music.
