The San Javier City Council offers a free family respite service for family caregivers of dependent people (23/07/2020)

| The Service, included in the Relanza San Javier Pact, is provided for a maximum of 4 hours on Saturdays and Sundays in the morning and afternoon , from next weekend until the end of the year | The City of San Javier, through the Department of Social Rights, has launched a free family respite service for family members of dependent people, which will operate during the weekend in the morning and afternoon.

The councilor for Social Rights, Estíbaliz Masegosa today presented this new service "which is especially necessary in these moments of pandemic whose consequences have especially affected people with any type of dependency and their family caregivers." The family respite service, which starts operating from next weekend, will cover the personal and accompanying care that the dependent person needs, replacing their family caregivers.

The service will be provided on Saturdays and Sundays in the morning and afternoon for a maximum of 4 hours until the end of December 2020.

To make use of it, registration in the municipality of San Javier is required, having a recognized degree of dependency and be in the care of a relative.

Those interested may request the service through the Social Services Center by calling 968 19 07 88. The association AFAL Cartagena y Comarca will be in charge of carrying out the service, with the supervision and support of the municipal Social Services Center, by means of qualified personnel who are receiving specific training, including a strict protocol of anti-COVID-19 measures, as explained by Rubén Nieto.

Conchi Martínez, member of the association and caregiver of a dependent family member, encouraged to use this free resource "to be able to take a breather", after confirming "how hard the confinement has been for both dependent people and caregivers" . The councilor for Social Rights, Estíbaliz Masegosa recalled that this initiative develops one of the agreements of the Relanza Pact, approved by all municipal political groups to face the consequences of the pandemic in the municipality, and which has a grant from the COVID-19 contingency of the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia.
