Mayor Jose Miguel Luengo criticizes the inaction of the State before the Plan Vertido 0 (17/09/2020)

José Miguel Luengo recriminates the State that the CHS has not started the demarcation of the Cobatillas promenade to attack the containment dikes, collected for 2 years by the Vertido Plan 0 to reduce the force of the descent of the water towards San Javier and the Mar Menor The mayor of San Javier, José Miguel Luengo yesterday reiterated his criticism of the central government, which he accused of inaction to preserve San Javier and the Mar Menor against the danger of floods.

During the Mar Menor Inter-Administrative Coordination Forum, held yesterday at the Los Alcázares Town Hall, José Miguel Luengo reminded the representative of the Government Delegation that the Segura Hydrographic Confederation "has not even started the demarcation of the promenade of Cobatillas to be able to start the containment dikes that would protect San Javier and the Mar Menor and that are contemplated in the Plan Vertido 0 that has been published for two years ".

Luengo regretted that "the central government continues to ignore this situation" and reiterated "the need to act upstream, because the Cobatillas Rambla does not fit in the pipes that we are making in San Javier and La Ribera ". José Miguel Luengo reported after the meeting of the Mar Menor Coordination Forum that according to the Minister of Water, Livestock, Fisheries and Environment, Antonio Luengo, the Autonomous Community already has all the necessary authorizations to start the recovery work of the encañizada El Ventorrillo.

Luengo pointed out that this is "good news" and recalled that together with the La Torre canyons, in operation, they represent a traditional way of fishing characteristic of the Mar Menor, as well as a unique landscape.

The project to recover El Ventorrillo was promoted by the mayor of San Javier, when he was a deputy in the Regional Assembly where he presented a motion in that sense that was approved unanimously. In the Inter-administrative Coordination Forum of the Mar Menor, chaired by the counselor Antonio Luengo and of which the mayors of San Javier, San Pedro del Pinatar, Los Alcázares and Cartagena are part, together with the General Director of the Mar Menor, Miriam Albaladejo and a State representative, discussed issues related to municipal improvements in the sanitation and canalization of rainwater and cleaning of sewer networks, scuppers and environmental tanks to prevent collapses and drags in the event of heavy rains.

Councilor Antonio Luengo informed the mayors about the parameters that measure the evolution of the Mar Menor, which follow a trend of improvement in the levels of chlorophyll, salinity, transparency and turbidity.
