The Department of Women devoted his VI Day for Rural Women (19/10/2016)

Day of Rural Women held for the sixth year in San Javier, organized by the Department of Women and Equality, put back the focus on the presence and weight of women in agriculture, although it is growing , it is still far from normal.

This is the premise from which start all sectors involved and as expressed by the participants justifies the continuity of the struggle of rural women for equality and actions like today's session that brought together 80 women at headquarters COAG-Go in El Mirador.

The mayor of San Javier José Miguel Luengo opened the conference with the Director General of Agricultural Funds of the CARM, Carmen Garcia and the farming and regional president of Women of Coag-Ir Murcia and Ceres: Water and Earth, Dolores Diaz, who he encouraged women to demand equality at work, to form and gain strength through partnership.

José Miguel Luengo appreciated the role of women "that has been responsible for the socioeconomic development of the municipality" and matched with men in the development of agriculture which highlights the modernization, the maximum respect for the environment and saving water aspects that characterize agriculture of El Mirador, and that includes the institutional video with the city Council unveiled the agriculture of the municipality in the International Fair Fruitt Attraction.

The head of the Agricultural Funds of the CARM, Carmen Garcia noted the need for institutions to recognize rural women, for their contribution to the sustainability of rural areas which account for 48.8% of the population, contributing 12% graduates versus 8% of men with specific training.

Garcia said that the Region of Murcia is after Andalusia region of Spain with more women in the agricultural sector with 5% against the national average of 2.5%.

This figure is overshadowed, however, by a preponderance of man as wage worker in the field, with 85% versus 15% of women.

The dispute also affects the ownership of the activity, which "sadly highlights the limited operation of the Law of Entitlement Shared since there are now only 200 shared ownerships, of which 64 were newly created last year" .

In the region of Murcia has only a woman holding the shared ownership, he added the director general of the Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Environment, for which "we should think and reflect on".

The day continued with a presentation on "Rural women Achievements and Future Challenges." By the Regional Technical Head of woman Coag-Ir Murcia and Ceres: Water and Earth, Maria Jose Soria.

After the break breakfast Vicente Sicily, expert direction and management of fruit and vegetable companies and manager emeritus SAT San Cayetano, he starred in the second paper entitled "Notes on the importance of agriculture in the development of San Javier".

Women participants in the conference later visited the company's Dulze, one of the most technologically advanced in the local agricultural sector before a joint meal with the activity is closed.
