Jazz San Javier welcomes one of the greats of jazz, saxophonist Charles Lloyd, a saxophone legend who at 79 years has just released a new album "Passin'Thru", the third with Blue Note since 2015, recorded live To celebrate the tenth anniversary of its new Quartet.

The protagonist of one of the best-selling jazz records in history, "Forest Flower: Charles Lloyd at Monterey" (Atlantic, 1968), has a long career filled with awards and recognitions, including the "National Endowment for The Arts Jazz Master ", the highest consideration for live jazz artists, along with an extensive discography in which reflects the taste for the ballad of a musician who critics have defined as" lyrical by vocation and spiritual by tradition. "

His great talent for improvisation and the fusion of jazz with other sounds characterized from the beginning of his career to this musician who grew influenced by the sound of jazz, blues and gospel that reigned in Memphis, his native city.

He has been part of multiple formations including his first quartet in which music giants such as pianist Keith Jarrett, bassist Cecil McBee and drummer Jack DeJohnette.

His acknowledged kindness and good mood translates into a music that he himself considers an instrument to change the world.

In Jazz San Javier will act with its quartet next to Reuben Rogers, contrabajo;

Eric Harland, drummer, and Gerald Clayton on piano, three of the best jazz musicians of his generation.

The second part of the night at Jazz San Javier will occupy a major project with the fusion jazz band Patax composed by eleven musicians, in which the wind and percussion sections stand out, and the splendid singer Alana Sinkey.

The group, led by percussionist Jorge Pérez, performs for the first time at Jazz San Javier with an exceptional guest, the North American violinist based in Spain Maureen Choi, with a concert that promises to be a revelation for the audience of the Festival.

The percussionist Jorge Pérez, born in Boston, where he studied at the prestigious Berklee College of Music, sees himself as a jazz fusion musician open to Latinity, flamenco and the tradition of pop and rock.

With Patax has honored Michael Jackson, shared stage with Jerry González and is inspired in the great ones of the fusion like Weather Report, Chick Corea's Electric Band, and Herbie Hancock, being also influenced by the Latin Jazz of Irakere, by Wayne Shorter or the Flamenco of Morente or Paco de Lucía.

Patax will be a guest of luxury with the Spanish-based American violinist Maureen Choi, a classical violinist who has created her own Latin jazz-based sound and leads her own quartet of jazz flamenco musicians.

Rodney Whitaker has said that she is "the next great violin voice in jazz" and her album "Ida y Vuelta" (2015) has been rated by five-time Grammy Award-winning Latin jazz producer Óscar Gómez as "One of the most original, interesting and surprising of the current scene".

Maureen Choi combines her musical activity with teaching as a violin teacher at the Berklee in Valencia and the School of Creative Music in Madrid.
