About 400 volunteers collect more than 9,500 kg of waste on the beach and seafloor of Ensenada del Esparto, in La Manga del Mar Menor (21/08/2017)

About 400 volunteers gathered last Saturday a total of 9,500 kilos of waste, mostly construction debris and 500 kg of plastic material, on the beach and seabed of the Esparto Cove in La Manga del Mar Menor within the Eco Ensenada del Esparto, an initiative of the neighbors and owners of La Manga-Norte, which had the collaboration of the San Javier City Council, and which aims to raise awareness about the care of beaches, rocks and seabed.

Councilor for the Environment Antonio Martínez attended the event that began with an exhibition of marine pollution control material by SGS Marine Services and a talk on Posidonia Oceánica.

Subsequently the volunteers of different nationalities and residents in different housing estates, which had been cited by social networks, began the collection work that had as final reward a joint barbecue to dismiss the day.

The Councilor for the Environment Antonio Martínez stressed the importance of this type of citizen initiatives that demonstrate the degree of awareness on the matter and that should serve as an example for all users of beaches and marine environments.

Martinez compromised the support of the City Council to this type of initiatives that complement the campaigns that are continuously carried out from the local and regional administration to raise awareness of a situation that we can all contribute to improve.
