Imagine 2018 opened today its doors with a work of the collective of people with mental illness Apices, dedicated to Gustav Klimt (25/04/2018)

The painter Gustav Klimt stars in the work that this year has presented the association of people with mental illness, Apices, in Imagina 2018, the emerging art festival organized by the Department of Youth, which until next Sunday full of art and reflection different spaces public of the municipality.

The centenary of the death of the impulsive Austrian painter, as close to mental illness for family reasons as he himself reveals in a letter to his friend Moll painter, has served the workshop of artistic production directed by Mariona Simarro at the headquarters of Apices, in Cartagena, to pay tribute and break taboos about the disease.

The work, exhibited in the Usos Múltiples building, on Avenida Aviación Española has been called "Door to door" and consists of a set of painted doors in which the artists reinterpret different Klimt paintings such as the famous "El beso" or "Virgin", among others.

The users of the Association who come to the workshop of artistic production have been responsible for presenting one by one all the doors that also act as metaphors as an entrance to a particular universe created between the painter and the artist who interprets them and the public that he contemplates it.

The Councilor for Youth, Estíbaliz Masegosa and the artistic director of the Festival, Cristina Franco accompanied this morning the large group of Apices that attended the opening of the work, which as in previous years serves to start the festival that will have its official opening the next Friday at 9:30 pm at the Museum of San Javier with a party in which all the programmed artists and the guest artist will participate in this edition, the Murcian painter Juan José Martínez Cánovas.

Masegosa thanked the work of Ápices "that one more year shows us the power of art" and invited the public to visit the work these days, as well as the rest of works distributed in different points such as the Town Hall, the Museum, the square Spain, Garroferos street, Almansa park, Euro Roda playground, and Barnuevo beach.
