San Javier concludes its Action Plan for Sustainable Energy and advance their commitments on energy efficiency (26/06/2014)

The City of San Javier is conducting an audit of all municipal lighting to tender face lighting service through Energy Service Company (ESCO) in order to achieve both a cost savings and increased energy efficiency.

It also works to change the boiler system of municipal swimming pool, using biomass and solar panels, as is planned in the Town Hall building with a photovoltaic system.

Three new measures are expected to be operational within a maximum period of 9 months, they reported the secondment to the Department of Environment municipal engineer, Salvador Navarro, during the seminar held in the city of San Javier to present the Plan of Action for Sustainable Energy (PAES) in the municipality of San Javier.

A plan that is part of the commitment made by the City of San Javier in 2011 with the signing of the Covenant of Mayors whose ultimate goal is to reduce CO2 emissions to the atmosphere.

Municipal Plan which provides several measures for the construction, transport and street lighting, has collected the suggestions made by citizens in the Forum to be convened for this purpose earlier this year, recalled the Town Planning, Environment and Agriculture, Antonio Luengo who opened the day with Rafael Ataz, head of European projects INFO, entity to support municipalities in implementing the European Covenant of Mayors initiative.

The mayor of the Environment, Antonio Luengo explained that the City of San Javier has already begun to see results in energy efficiency as a result of various measures taken since the beginning of this term as selective off public lighting, lamp replacement high consumption, reducing electricity consumption in municipal buildings, or changing LED lights in traffic lights, among other measures.

Luengo stressed the commitment of the City of San Javier which is the Covenant of Mayors, as embodied in the very get aa 2020 with a reduction of 20 percent of greenhouse gas emissions, and to achieve energy savings 20 percent and increasing by 20 percent the use of renewable energy.

The mayor of the Environment stressed the importance of public awareness in this area, which is involved in the whole society and not just the municipalities can not force the adoption of a series of individual measures with which contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions beyond reward those citizens who invest solutions such as electric vehicles, with a tax cut.
