An exhibition of photographs shows the situation of women in the world (26/02/2009)

The mayor of San Javier Pepa García accompanied by Councilwoman Female M ª Angeles Chumillas and municipal agent for Equal Luis Asensio Lucas inaugurated this morning the exhibition of the photographer cartagenera Lina Jiménez "Under the Same Sun", which can be seen in Municipal Museum of San Javier until 13 March.

The exhibition is part of the activities organized by the City Council to mark the Day of Working Women is sponsored by the Institute of Women of the Region of Murcia and shows, through photographs taken by Lina Jimenez in his travels, the situation of women in countries such as India, Kenya, China, Cameroon, Mali, Namibia, Vietnam, Iran and Pakistan, among many others.

Grouped by themes, the photographs show women erect with their children on their backs and the load on the head in Cameroon and Guatemala, women in search of water in Kenya and Mali, women repairing the roof of the hut after the rain in Zulu Country South Africa, a goatherd climbers in the Anti Atlas of Morocco, young people only reveal their face in the realm of the "chador" in Iran, and others also face hidden under the burqa in Pakistan, or the Isle Lamu in Kenya.

Councilwoman Female, M ª Angeles Chumillas made reference to the title of the exhibition "Under the Same Sun" to complain that "the same sun does not shine the same for all women in the world" and has called for solidarity "that all we get into the problems affecting these women, and fight for equality between men and women and equal rights."

The mayor Pepa García noting also the "great beauty" of the photographs in the exhibition "which should serve to remind us that in other parts of the world are women, and men who are experiencing a situation of oppression incomprehensible."

Pepa García has appealed to visit the exhibition "that will help us be aware of these other realities and seek a more just and more equal."

The exhibition is open until March 13 at the Municipal Museum of San Javier, Tuesday through Saturday from 09:30 to 14:00

and 16:0 h.

Sundays from 10:30 to 14:00 h.
