The General Air Academy today celebrated the Solemn Act of Opening of the academic year 2018-2019 that has begun with a total of 524 students, 396 belonging to different curricula, and 128 to the Common Bodies.
This course coincides with the 75th anniversary of the AGA and the 10th Anniversary of the implementation of the University Center of Defense, attached to the Polytechnic University of Cartagena, where future officers of the Air Force combine their military studies with those of the Degree of Engineering in Industrial Organization.
The event, which was attended by military and academic students and professors, was chaired by the Undersecretary of Defense, Alejo de la Torre de la Calle, accompanied at the presidential table by the Government Delegate in Murcia, Diego Conesa;
the mayor of San Javier José Miguel Luengo, the counselor of the Presidency, Pedro Rivera;
the general chief of the Personnel Command of the Air Force, Pablo J. Castillo;
the general director of Army Teaching, Enrique Jesús Biosca;
the colonel director of the AGA, Miguel Ivorra and the rector of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena, Alejandro Díaz Morcillo.
The act began with the reading of the academic reports by the Secretaries of the AGA and the University Center of Defense in which the high academic performance of the students of the Degree in Engineering in Industrial Organization was highlighted with a 93 percent approval, "the highest of the UPCT" admitted in his speech the rector Alejandro Díaz Morcillo who highlighted "the consolidation" of the new teaching system of the military career implemented in the AGA.
The Undersecretary of Defense, Alejo de la Torre de la Calle, recalled the 75th anniversary of the AGA and its excellence throughout those years in the comprehensive "military, theoretical and values" training of the new officers of the Air Force. those who promised to do "everything possible so that you feel proud to serve the Air Force and Spain."
During his speech the colonel director of the AGA, Miguel Ivorra encouraged the students to face the new course with "pride and joy and also with responsibility and commitment".
Before the turn of interventions was celebrated the delivery of Badges to the military professors and of the "Venia Docenci" to a group of doctors in the act of inauguration of the course that finalized with the university hymn "Gaudeamus Igitur" and the hymn of the Army of the Air who sang all present accompanied by the Music Unit of the AGA.
