Mónica Meroño: The'Tenorio' represented in the cemetery of San Javier is unique and deserves the declaration of Regional Tourist Interest (27/10/2018)

The deputy of the Popular Parliamentary Group, Mónica Meroño, has filed a motion in the Regional Assembly requesting the Regional Government to declare Regional Tourist Interest for the theatrical performance of "Don Juan Tenorio" in the cemetery of San Javier, an activity cultural identity that deserves this regional distinction, he affirmed.

The theatrical representation of the work of José Zorrilla in the cemetery of San Javier, has become the cultural event of the year, around which various previous acts have been organized as small representations in the streets, both in San Javier and in Santiago de Chile. La Ribera, Meroño said that he stressed that we are facing a very original assembly, organized for the fifth consecutive year and where 1,500 people and travel in time with the tour of the cemetery represented by more than 200 artists of the theater group of San Javier .

It is a great project of citizen participation because there are many associations involved in this initiative and has the only international precedent that of the cemetery in Lima in Peru. The PP deputy in the Regional Assembly explained, who believes that this initiative promoted by the municipality of San Javier will result in a better knowledge of our region of the Mar Menor and will help to break the tourist seasonality of the coastal municipalities.

In addition, "Dream and reality in the cemetery of San Javier" has recently been awarded with the Cemeteries of Spain Prize in the category of Best Activity of Open Doors of the magazine "Adiós Cultural", which means the inclusion of the cemetery of this municipality in the tourist guide "Route of Cemeteries of Spain", has explained the 'popular' deputy.

The literary work runs in the Seville of 1545 during the reign of Charles V, being a cemetery, the main stage of much of it and that is traditionally represented in Spanish theaters around November 1, festivity of All Saints .

Given the uniqueness of the representation, the reception of the public and its national projection, from the Popular Parliamentary Group, we support the municipality of San Javier in the request to the regional government of the declaration of Regional Tourist Interest of a cultural event of great relevance for the Marmenorense municipality and for the entire Region, Mónica Meroño has finished.
