El Molino "El Maestre" will recover its original appearance with a water wheel in a second phase of its restoration (21/02/2019)

The mill "El Maestre", located in the Alto del Villar, will be displayed, as it was built at the end of the 19th century, the next Holy Week when it is expected that the recovery works of the property cataloged as an Asset of Cultural Interest will be completed. the Ministry of Tourism and Culture that has invested 80,000 euros in its rehabilitation and restoration.

The mayor of San Javier José Miguel Luengo, the general director of Cultural Property Juan Antonio Lorca and the councilman of Culture, David Martinez today visited the works of the first phase of the recovery of the mill, which continue at a good pace and which will follow a second phase to complete the set as it was originally with a ferris wheel on the side that pushed by the blades extracted water from the subsoil for irrigation.

The architect director of the works, José María López explained that the works carried out so far have consisted of cleaning the "trunk" of the building, removing the additions that were not proper, for reconstruction using only traditional techniques such as mortar lime or wood carpentry.

From now on we will proceed to cover the building with the spire and provide it with the blades, all with national pine wood.

The mayor José Miguel Luengo stressed the importance of the recovery of this type of property, which belong to the historical heritage of the municipality and as the wheel of the Torre Mínguez farm, also in restoration will serve as a tribute to the effort of Sanjaviereños then to extract water to be able to water.

Luengo reported that the City Council has already transferred to the Ministry the recovery project of the three salt mills, one of them unique in the Region, of Veneziola where it is intended to recover its rich salt history.

These mills and many others existing in the Region are included in the Master Plan for the Wind Mills of the Region of Murcia, which is part of the Strategic Plan for the Cultural Heritage of the Region of Murcia, whose objective is to establish a classification of all of them to establish an order of priority in the rehabilitation of all of them, as confirmed by the Director General of Cultural Assets, Juan Antonio Lorca.
