50th International Festival of Theater, Music and Dance of San Javier (30/05/2019)

Nuria Espert, Lluis Pasqual, José María Pou, Mario Gas, Lluís Homar, Joglars, José Carlos Plaza, Magüi Mira, Lolita Flores, Rafael Álvarez El Brujo and Juan Mayorga, among other great names of Spanish theater, will pass next August for the International Festival of Theater, Music and Dance of San Javier.

The Festival will celebrate its 50th anniversary with a program that includes 21 shows, three of them street, 14 of theater, two of music with Jane Birkin and the Japanese drums of "Yamato", one of dance with the Cuban Carlos Acosta and another of contemporary circus with the French Raphaelle Boitel.

The auditorium of Parque Almansa, in San Javier and the theater, more intimate, of the center "Prince of Asturias", of Santiago de la Ribera, will be the double venue of the Festival that will run from July 31 to August 25, with a proposal heterogeneous that also includes well-known names of the current theater, television and film scene such as Brays Efe, Canco Rodríguez, Ana Morgade, Antonio Hortelano, Alicia Borrachero, Fran Perea, Amaia Salamanca, Elena Ballesteros, Antonio Pagudo and Daniel Guzmán among others.

The mayor of San Javier José Miguel Luengo and the director of the Festival, David Martínez, accompanied by the Minister of Tourism and Culture of the Region of Murcia, Miriam Guardiola presented today in San Javier the program that was missing after the advance offered by the past April "which completes one of the best and most ambitious programming in the history of the Festival, according to the half century of life we ​​celebrate in this edition," said the mayor who highlighted the "entirely municipal" management of the Festival.

Luengo recalled "all those who have worked for the Festival during these 50 years and highlighted the work of its director and councilor of Culture, David Martínez in recent years" to consolidate the Festival as one of the great events with the scenic arts of summer in Spain ".

On the terrace of the Town Hall where the anniversary party was held, the director of the Festival, David Martínez, unveiled the theatrical episode that includes the return of the actor José María Pou, who on August 2 will star in "Viejo Amigo Cicerón", an unpublished text by Ernesto Caballero , centered on the figure of the famous Roman orator, directed by Mario Gas.

The work, co-produced by the Festival de Mérida and Teatre Romea in Barcelona, ​​presents Cicero as an integral politician in an adverse world from a current perspective.

The Abbey returns one more year to the Festival of San Javier where it will arrive on August 4 with its latest production, "Nekrassov", the only comedy written by Jean-Paul Sartre, directed by Dan Jemmett.

The work, which was written in 1955, gains currency in the current era of misinformation, post-truth and fake news, with its fierce criticism of the fourth power and its questioning of journalistic veracity and the manipulation of public opinion.

Joglars, one of the groups linked to the history of the San Javier Theater Festival since its inception, could not miss in the 50th edition in which on August 7 will present "Lord Ruiseñor", a montage based on the figure of the multifaceted Catalan artist Santiago Rusiñol with whom according to Ramón Fontserè, who interprets and directs the work, have tried to "confront that Catalonia of Rusiñol with the one of now and to claim the art as a universal fatherland against the identity homelands".

The humorist, presenter and actress Ana Morgade and Canco Rodríguez will present on August 11 "Altered behaviors", one of the comedies included in the program with text and direction of Natalia Mateo, starring a desperate family that in the absence of resources to solve his many problems decide to call Super Nanny on TV.

On August 15 will come "Prometheus", the second production of the International Classical Theater Festival of Mérida that can be seen in San Javier this year, directed by José Carlos Plaza and a large cast led by Lluís Homar, which includes Amaia Salamanca and Fran Perea.

Lluís Homar, who will assume the direction of the National Company of Classical Theater from the month of September, plays the hero Prometheus when from old age he remembers tormented his life through the lyricism of the text written by the poet Luis García Montero.

Brays Efe, which has garnered enormous success with "The Extraordinary Things" will gather an accomplice audience at the theater of the "Prince of Asturias" center, on August 16 to list a series of things "that make life worthwhile" ", in a comedy by Duncan Mcmillan directed by Pau Roca, about personal crises and what we are willing to do for those we love.

Magüi Mira directs the theatrical production of "La fuerza del affection", based on the film of the same name by James L. Brook, winner of five Oscars, which was also taken to the theater by Dan Gordon.

Produced by Pentación Espectáculos, the Spanish montage adapted by Emilio Hernández is starring Lolita Flores, Luis Mottola, Antonio Hortelano and Marta Guerras.

The theater group San Javier, whose presence remembers each year the amateur origin of the Festival when it was created in 1969, will premiere on August 19 "Coriolano", one of the last tragedies written by Shakespeare in which narrates the exile of the Coriolan despot and the plot of his revenge against Rome.

The actor and director José Antonio Navas signs the version of the assembly directed by himself, with a wide cast and live music.

Another of the regular actors of the San Javier Festival has been Rafael Álvarez "El Brujo" who will also be in this 50th edition, on August 23 with "Esquilo, Birth and Death of a Tragedy," a montage in the purest style of this juglar who studies, reflects, thinks and tells a story, centered on this occasion in the tragedy, starting with Esquilo's "Prometheus chained", with the mixture of erudition and the rigorous and honest humor that characterizes him.

Another of the works that will be performed in the intimacy of the "Prince of Asturias" center, with capacity for 300 spectators, is "Intensamente azules", the fifth theatrical production by the dramatist and flamenco academic of the language, Juan Mayorga, in which the actor César Sarachu, gives life, alone, to a "crazy metaphor about the fascinating adventure of daring to look at the world for the first time".

The actor and film director Daniel Guzmán, Goya for Best New Director for "In exchange for nothing" in 2015, directs the theatrical version of the Italian film "Perfectos desconocidos", by Paolo Genovese, which in Spain was taken to the cinema by Alex of the church.

Alicia Borrachero, Antonio Pagudo, Fernando Soto and Elena Ballesteros head the cast that gives life to a group of friends who during a dinner decide to leave the phones on the table and share the messages they receive.

One of the outstanding presences of the program will be the actress Nuria Espert, who will collect the Prize of the 50th International Festival of Theater, Music and Dance of San Javier, with two performances, on August 10 and 11, with "Romancero Gitano" directed by Lluis Pasqual, in the privacy of the theater "Prince of Asturias", in Santiago de la Ribera.

The Murcia from Alquibla Teatro, one of the most present regional companies in the history of the Festival, will premiere on August 6th "Mucho ruido about nothing", a free version of the classic of Shakespeare, with a festive character set with live swing music, directed by Antonio Saura

The celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Festival includes street shows in Santiago de la Ribera, La Manga del Mar Menor and San Javier where the great Cordovan pianist, Pablo Amorós will offer a concert in the Plaza de España on August 14.

The program includes a children's show "Snow White" with Arena Teatro, on August 3 in Santiago de la Ribera.
