The Ministry of Public Works and the City of San Javier sign an agreement to support taxi drivers in San Javier who will receive a grant of 180,000 euros (03/06/2019)

The Minister of Public Works, Patricio Valverde and the acting mayor of San Javier, José Miguel Luengo today signed an agreement that will involve a contribution of 180,000 euros for the 18 taxi licenses of the municipality of San Javier with the aim of promoting professional activity in the sector, as a compensatory measure for the transfer from San Javier airport to Corvera.

With the agreement signed today in the City of San Javier with the presence of José Luis Pascual and Amalia Peñalver, representatives of the taxi sector in the municipality, and the Councilor for Transport, Antonio Martínez, "the negotiations in which we have worked in the last months, "said Mayor José Miguel Luengo, who complained to the regional administration" extraordinary measures for San Javier taxi drivers affected by extraordinary circumstances such as the transfer of an airport to a neighboring municipality. "

This was seen by the regional government and the acting advisor of Development, Patricio Valverde who explained that the City of San Javier will distribute regional aid among the 18 taxi licenses of San Javier, including direct financial aid that will be invested in improving the service through a reorganization, modernization and diversification of its activity.

Among the improvements planned is a mobile application that allows the outsourcing of services that will have maximum rates and detailed information on them.

In terms of diversification, they are also preparing circuits and specific tourist routes that will be offered to tourists in hotels, explained José Luis Pascual, president of Unión Radio Taxi Mar Menor in San Javier, who hopes to continue receiving work related to the airport "because if Murcia taxi drivers bring tourists to the area who arrive at the airport, it will be us who will take them back. "

The representative of the taxi drivers, José Luis Pascual added that once the closure of the airport was assumed and "after many negotiations we are satisfied with this agreement because we are partially compensated for the losses we have had, with the perspective of improving the functionality of the service" , for which it guaranteed the effort of the sector.
