San Javier could have an interpretation center for native species in a municipal park (25/06/2019)

The Councilors of Youth, Isabel Madrid and Public Services, Parks and Gardens, María Dolores Ruiz along with staff from the Department of Environment and representatives of various groups have met with the UMU Botany professor, Pedro Sánchez in order to begin studies for the start-up of an interpretive center with native species that would be located in the park of Cabo Huertas avenue, in Santiago de la Ribera.

The project, whose next step will be to survey the existing species and study the needs and possible actions, is part of the European project "Global education starts in your municipality" that is developed at the same time in 30 locations in six European countries with the objective to encourage citizen commitment to take an active role in the face of the problem of global development.

The Department of Youth of San Javier manages the project in San Javier with the participation of the councils of Environment and Parks and Gardens, as well as associations, entities and groups that have joined this European initiative that the Cazalla Intercultural Association of Lorca manages in Spain.

The project, which works the World or Sustainable Development Objectives (SDG) of the United Nations, has focused on objective 11 on sustainable cities and communities, and among the proposals that emerged in San Javier is the creation of a center for the interpretation of species native, that serves as study and defense of the same.
