Night of contrasts in Jazz San Javier with the spectacular BVR Flamenco Big Band and the singer and pianist of New York, Tony Desare (05/07/2019)

The generous space that opens up between flamenco and jazz holds a prominent place in the "BRV Flamenco Big Band", a project as original as it is rigorous, captained by the Dutch-Spanish saxophonist and composer, Bernard Van Rossum.

Born and educated in Spain, with a Dutch father and an English mother, Van Rossum manages to bring the rhythms and harmonies of flamenco to the dynamics of a great jazz orchestra formed by 20 musicians, with which he performs for the first time at Jazz San Javier, with guests of exception like the cantaor David de Jacoba, member of the last band of Paco de Lucía and the Mexican bailaora Karen Lugo.

The "BVR Flamenco Big Band" has been distinguished with the Meerjazz Award in 2015 and the Keep an Eye on Jazz records in 2017 and has two critically acclaimed albums like "Jaleo dutch" (2015) and "Luz de luna" ( 2017) with themes, mostly composed and arranged musically by Bernard van Rossum.

Away from both commercial and elitist production, the honest sound of the BVR Flamenco Big Band has dazzled the European public, which has already enjoyed the powerful live performance of an orchestra as vigorous as the BVR Flamenco Big Band.

The second concert of the night is starred by New York pianist and vocalist Tony Desare, a jazz and crooner musician who evokes both classic icons of American music such as Frank Sinatra and Nat King Cole, and contemporary revivalist stars such as Harry Connick. Jr., Peter Cincotti and John Pizzarelli, whose father, guitarist Bucky Pizzarelli accompanied Desare at the beginning of his musical career.

Described by The New York Times as "Two parts of Sinatra and one of Billy Joel", Tony Desare, who offered his first concert in Spain at Jazz San Javier in 2015, began an unstoppable career since his participation in the musical "Our Sinatra" on Broadway in 1998. The prestigious magazine Downbeat Magazine cataloged him as an emerging star, while public and critics consolidated their stardom with a warm welcome from their live shows, inside and outside North America.

Its enormous versatility is in keeping with the eclectic taste of this jazz musician, who approaches the classics such as Gershwin or Cole Porter with the same freshness, as well as other great new American composers such as Ray Charles or Billy Joel, among others, without forget his successful facet as a composer.

In addition to advertising and film, Tony Desare manages to create fresh and contemporary themes while still reverencing the Great American Songbook.

In his second concert in Jazz San Javier will perform with his usual Quartet in which he is accompanied by Ed Decker on guitar;

Dylan Shamat on the double bass and Michael Klopp on drums.
