San Javier will continue to have the assistance of Proyecto Hombre to address the problem of addictions in the municipality (25/09/2019)

The mayor, José Miguel Luengo and the president of Proyecto Hombre in Murcia, Tomás Zamora signed the renewal of the collaboration agreement that both institutions maintain and that supposes the municipal contribution of 10,000 euros for the development in the municipality of an action program that includes prevention work, advice and a free service of direct attention to people affected by any addiction.

The addiction to substances such as cannabis and alcohol, technological devices and gambling are the main reasons for consultation in the direct attention service of San Javier according to its head María Dolores Egea, present at the signing of the agreement.

Since its commissioning three years ago, this service, designed for young people and families, which also receives adults, has attended about thirty cases that come either by referral from other institutions or on its own initiative.

The care in San Javier is carried out with technical personnel of Proyecto Hombre who, according to each case, will refer patients to specific programs of the entity in Murcia.

Those interested in this service, which is offered free of charge, must come with an appointment that is obtained by calling the Project Man in Murcia phone number 968 28 00 34 to be attended by technical personnel who travel to San Javier four days at month, three Tuesdays from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and a Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., in the building of the Department of Youth, located on Avenida Aviation Española, 12 in San Javier.

Proyecto Hombre, which works in coordination with the Social Services of the City Council of San Javier, offers, in addition to direct attention, other school prevention actions and family workshops, as well as information, advice and training in addiction matters with City Council professionals such as Local Police, community agents and the health sector.

The mayor of San Javier, José Miguel Luengo stressed the importance of both prevention and therapy work, carried out by Proyecto Hombre and encouraged any person or family that is being affected by any type of addiction to resort to this free service that we offer in San Javier and that can be of great help to initiate a recovery process for both the affected person and the family that also suffers the consequences of this disease.
