The Rural Women's Day in San Javier will address sustainability in agriculture and female employability (11/10/2019)

The Councilor for Women and Equal Opportunities of the City of San Javier, Ana Belén Martínez presented today the Rural Women-San Javier conference that will be held next Tuesday October 15 in the auditorium of the City of San Javier.

The day, which is celebrated under the slogan "Farmers, livestock farmers, we enhance the Rural Environment" aims to "give visibility and show our support for the role of women in rural areas that has traditionally been relegated despite assuming 43 per percent of the agricultural workforce in Spain, "said the councilor.

The Minister of Water, Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Environment, Antonio Luengo and the mayor of San Javier, José Miguel, will open the Day at 09:30 in an act that will include the participation of the councilor, Ana Balén Martínez and the general secretary of COAG-Murcia, Francisco Gil.

The day, open to the public, will consist of two presentations, the first at 10: 00h on "Urgent measures in the agricultural sector to ensure sustainability in the Mar Menor environment", by Sergio Ballester, agricultural technician of COAG-El Mirador , and the second at 10: 45h on "Encouraging the employability of women in rural areas" by Laura López and Aranzazu Sánchez-Sarriá.

The conference includes a visit to the San Javier Wastewater Station to learn about the process of purification of one hundred percent of the flow it receives, a good part of which is used for irrigation water.

The day will end with a meal of coexistence of the participating women.

Councilwoman Ana Belén Martínez was accompanied by María Dolores Martínez, farmer and regional president of the Association for the integral development in the rural environment Agua y Tierra, who highlighted the opportunity of this type of actions to continue giving voice and visibility to rural women .

Coag-IR of El Mirador, the Confederation of Women of the Rural World (CERES), the association Agua y Tierra, Esamur and Asaemu collaborate in the organization of the day.

The presentations will be open access while the departure and closing meal require prior registration, through the Department of Women, in the City of San Javier.
