San Javier becomes the international capital of Maxibasket from November 30 to December 1 (28/11/2019)

San Javier will become the international capital of MaxiBasket, basketball practiced by over 35 years in women and 40 years in men, during the next days November 29 and 30 and December 1, on the occasion of the holding of the Murcia Murcia MAMBA Basketball Tournament 3.19 in which 33 teams from 12 countries will participate.

The mayor of San Javier, José Miguel Luengo, the Councilor for Sports, Sergio Martínez and the tournament director, Fernando Zaplana presented today the event that will attract more than 500 people among athletes, technicians and companions, half of them international.

In total 13 women's teams will participate in the +35, +45 and +50 years categories, and the rest in the +40 and +50 categories

The Tournament, which will be open to the public, will be played with up to five simultaneous matches in the pavilions of the San Javier municipal sports center.

On Friday, November 29, an inaugural match will be played at 6 pm with women's teams from Lithuania and the United Kingdom.

On Saturday, November 30, the group stage will be played uninterruptedly from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and on Sunday December 1 the qualifiers and finals from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

The Tournament is organized by the association Decyde and the TripleDoble collective with the collaboration of the City Council of San Javier, the General Directorate of Sports and the Tourism Institute of the Region of Murcia.

Fernando Zaplana explained that the Tournament combines sport and tourism “since the large international Maxibasket family, made up of people over 35 years of age with great purchasing power, takes advantage of these types of events to continue with their passion for basketball and sight seeing weather".

Among the participating teams there are players who are over 60, all fans of this sport, and even former professional players, from different Spanish cities and countries such as Russia, Lithuania, Ukraine, Poland, Serbia, Croatia, Germany, United Kingdom, Ireland , Portugal and a team from Uruguay residing in Spain.

The mayor of San Javier José Miguel Luengo welcomed this new sporting event in the municipality "which will surely take advantage of it to make itself known to the more than 500 people that it brings with it in addition to the fans who come these days."

Luengo thanked the organization that chose San Javier "where I hope you all feel at home and decide to return another time."
