The Plenary of San Javier approves a motion "against the concealed closure of the Tajo-Segura transfer" (16/01/2020)

The Plenary Session of the City Council of San Javier approved a motion "against the concealed closure of the Tajo-Segura transfer" jointly presented by the Popular, Vox and Ciudadanos-C's groups in which the Government of the Nation is urged to respect the Law 21/2013 in which the rules of exploitation of the Transfer that were approved by five Autonomous Communities, the irrigators and the Government of Spain are established, respecting the decision of the technicians of the Central Commission of Exploitation, which they consider violated.

The text of the motion considers that the Minister of Ecological Transition in operation, Teresa Ribera, decided last year to deny the transfer in the months of November and December "against the criteria of the technicians of the Central Commission of Exploitation of the Transfer for those that did exist resources available to transfer "and accuses her of putting the ecological status of the Mar Menor as an excuse.

The motion asks the current Government of Spain to reconsider such a decision and issue an order to transfer the amount proposed by the Commission technicians in the months of November and December.

The motion, which considers the Tajo-Segura transfer as an irrevocable, supportive and vertebrate infrastructure between regions, also urges the Spanish Government to "cease its smear campaign against the agriculture sector of the Cartagena Field" by denying the transfer by the Mar Menor state and warn of the danger of boycotting the agricultural products of the Campo de Cartagena if European consumers falsely identify agriculture with the destruction of the Mar Menor ecosystem.

The motion was presented in Urgency Affairs after requesting the Popular and Vox groups to remain on the table their respective motions and agree with Citizens-C's a joint text. The Socialist groups, which defended the transfer and Mixed, which advocated for another type of the productive system, they voted against considering that there were "partisan ends" in the motion.

Other issues

Among other matters, the Plenary took notice of the change of name of the concessionaire of the road cleaning and collection service, transportation, treatment of household waste, Fomento de Construcciones y Contratas, SA, by that of its subsidiary FCC Medio Ambiente, SA maintaining the same rights and obligations previously contracted with the parent company.

In matters of urgency, an extrajudicial credit file worth € 310,226 was approved to pay bills for other years, most of which come from expenses that were a consequence of the DANA of September 2019, explained the mayor of the Treasury, Héctor Verdú .

The Plenary rejected a VOX motion on the adoption of measures to improve the environmental situation of the Mar Menor after recalling all the groups, the joint motion that on the same subject had been approved by the Plenary last November.
