The rambles aggravate the situation created by the effects of the rain storm, which exceeded the official forecasts in San Javier (21/01/2020)

The municipality of San Javier has dawned today with a total of 11 roads and streets cut due to the effects of the rainstorm that has exceeded the official forecasts of 25 liters per square meter during the day to reach 70 liters, of the that 50 have fallen in just four hours during the early morning.

The yellow level decreed by the AEMET was suspended at 12: 00h and it does not rain since 10: 00h.

The contribution of the boulevards that cross the municipality and that is expected to continue growing in the next few hours, has aggravated the situation, mostly motivating the closure of the roads affected by the channels that collect the fallen water in the upper part of the basin .

The possible flooding of the ramblas keeps the alert in the municipality where level 1 of the Municipal Emergency Plan remains active.

The rain and the difficulty of access to San Javier has also forced to suspend classes in schools.

Nor will the municipal sports center open its doors and services today as the Courts have remained closed.

Fortunately, there are no serious incidents without any rescue notice to people, only to a vehicle caught in the water early in the morning.

The flood warnings on private properties are also not significant, in the absence of the global assessment that will be known tomorrow.

In La Manga del Mar Menor, in addition to the damage caused by the storm in beach areas, a break has caused a cut in the supply of drinking water that Potalmenor will offer through Cartagena while the work to locate and repair the breakage of the pipe that is being hindered by wet ground conditions.

All municipal services have remained on alert during the early morning with a special reinforcement of the Local Area Operational Coordination Center, CECOPAL, Local Police, three provisions of the Municipal Emergency Service, three emergency agents and a fire department, along with staff of Public Services.

The municipal services have worked with heavy machinery with which, among other things, they have guaranteed access to the Los Arcos hospital at all times through the Los Urreas estate.

The roads and streets cut remain closed to traffic at this time although the situation could change throughout the day so that the situation will be informed through the social networks of the City of San Javier that recommends prudence to citizens, circulate what is strictly necessary and resort to official sources to know the evolution of the situation.

The Councilor for Public Services, María Dolores Ruiz reiterated today the need to act in the upper part of the boulevards.

"We have three floods in six months and we hardly have time to clean up and recover from one when we are in another."

Ruiz recalled that the City Council has demanded from the Segura Hydrographic Confederation on several occasions the construction of infrastructures that contain and laminate the water "delivering, even, a project with 16 containment dams", for which the necessary budget was claimed.

The mayor said that the City Council and the CCAA can improve rainwater channeling "but we can not defend ourselves against the water that comes strongly from the ramblas."

The mayor, José Miguel Luengo plans to report tomorrow Wednesday at 09:30 in the City of San Javier, about the effects and damages of the storm after the emergency commission that will meet previously.
