The mayor, José Miguel Luengo and the General Director of Water, Sebastián Delgado participate in a technical meeting on works and projects against floods in the municipality (07/02/2020)

The Mayor of San Javier José Miguel Luengo and the General Director of Water, Sebastián Delgado held a technical meeting today at the City Council of San Javier to address different issues related to the ongoing and other imminent projects that the regional government takes place in the San Javier municipality related to stormwater channeling.

After the meeting and accompanied by technicians from the two administrations, the director general and the mayor visited the construction works of the Los Pescadores neighborhood collector who after completing their initial phase will be completed within a maximum period of three months.

The works, in which the Ministry of Water, Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Environment has invested 611,244 euros will minimize the effects of accumulation caused by episodes of heavy rains.

During the previous meeting, the General Director of Water, Sebastián Delgado pointed out the commitment of his department to tender as soon as possible another of the regional government projects in San Javier regarding the construction of the north and south storm collectors that will involve an investment of more than 5 million euros.

"This is an ambitious plan for San Javier that will provide a solution to the rainwater pipeline to the Los Ríos neighborhood, Spanish Aviation Avenue, the IES area" Mar Menor "and Neptune Avenue in the southern area," said the mayor José Miguel Luengo who highlighted the regional government's effort in this area.

José Miguel Luengo also pointed out that these actions must be complemented with other actions of the Government of the Nation in the areas where the waterways with containment levees are generated in the Cobatillas waterfront contemplated in the Discharge Plan 0 to the Mar Menor.

The meeting also addressed technical details of other complementary actions promoted by the City Council to improve the protection of the municipality against episodes of torrential rains such as the performance in the Vereda del Vinco converted into a 20-meter open-air channel, the expansion of capacity of the conduction of the Rambla de Macodesa and the joint study between the City Council and the AGA to improve the evacuation of water in that area San Javier.

The general director of Water, Sebastián Delgado also announced the beginning of the drafting of initial documents of the regional plan for the improvement of rainwater, sanitation and treatment plants in the municipalities of the Mar Menor in application of the Mar Menor Law.

The Plan that will be developed in collaboration with the Town Halls, aims to define the actions to be undertaken during the next few years for the improvement of both stormwater and sanitation networks, by separating both in the necessary cases, explained Sebastián Delgado.

The plan includes a period of one month for drafting it to proceed with the environmental processing of the planned works that will solve the problem of each municipality.
