The mayor of San Javier visits the levees that were made in the Rambla de Nogalte with the mayors of Puerto Lumbreras and Vélez Rubio (20/02/2020)

José Miguel Luengo has visited today the water containment dikes built on the Rambla de Nogalte to protect the area of ​​Lorca, Puerto Lumbreras and Vélez-Rubio among other municipalities that share that watercourse.

These dikes were built following the Wenceslas flood in 2012 that resulted in the death of 5 people and thousands of victims.

These 11 dikes located at the head of the Rambla de Nogalte are those that are part of the defense against avenues in the Alto Guadalentín basin.

The CHS secured the area with a battery of solutions to phenomena of intense rainfall.

The main function of the infrastructure is to laminate these points of avenues to prevent flooding.

Dikes such as these are those contemplated by the Plan for Discharge 0 to the Mar Menor, specifically 14 dykes on the Rambla de Cobatillas, not only to avoid spills in episodes of torrential rains but also to protect the municipality from floods that unfortunately have been Frequent in recent months.

"We contemplate 14 dikes in the Cobatillas watercourse so that the water reaches El Mirador with much less force and without all the sludge and silt that the Mar Menor ends up receiving," said the mayor of San Javier.

The mayor of San Javier, José Miguel Luengo, the Councilor for Public Services, María Dolores Ruiz and city council technicians have moved to these buildings to learn first-hand the infrastructure that San Javier needs.

The mayor of Vélez-Rubio, Miguel Martínez-Carlón Manchón, and the mayor of Puerto Lumbreras, María Ángeles Tunisia have transmitted to the mayor of San Javier how necessary these works were works to protect their citizens.
