Construction work on a soccer field begins at the Faculty of Sports Sciences (25/02/2020)

The mayor of San Javier, José Miguel Luengo, the Minister of Tourism, Youth and Sports, Cristina Sánchez and the Vice Chancellor of Infrastructure of the UMU, María Belén López, laid today the first stone of the future soccer field with which it is placed in The construction of the sports complex annexed to the UMU School of Sports Sciences in San Javier, which will be completed in a second phase with two pavilions and new classrooms, is under way.

The sports facilities will be shared by the Faculty itself and by the residents of the municipality.

The football field, of 107x69 meters with a rectangle of 100x64meters, is built on a municipal plot of 26,975 square meters of which 8,059 are occupied by the Faculty building, in Santiago de la Ribera.

The construction of the football field, which will have an execution period of 4 months, will involve a total investment of 724,804, 69 euros, financed by the City of San Javier, which will contribute 570,000 euros and the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia, to through the Ministry of Tourism, Youth and Sports, with 200,000 euros.

The winning company, Avanza y Desarrollos de Obras SL included several improvements in the project worth 208,082 euros consisting of a band with concrete asphalt of at least one meter in the entire perimeter of the playing field, the completion of an area of ​​1000 meters west of the field with the same game treatment and lighting with 18 meter turrets with LED level training.

The first phase of the sports complex will be completed with changing rooms, which have a heading in the municipal budgets, and the fencing of the plot that will assume the University of Murcia.

The mayor of San Javier José Miguel Luengo recalled that the football field will be shared by the Faculty and local teams and municipal users "allowing to download the use of the Pitín stadium, San Javier and thereby improve sports practice."

Regarding the works, Luengo said that "they go beyond a sports infrastructure."

For the mayor of San Javier is another step in the municipal commitment to sports and education "a work with a soul that affects the practice of sport and the education of sports values."

The Minister of Tourism, Youth and Sports, Cristina Sánchez showed her satisfaction for the start of the works that improve the facilities of the Faculty and its impact between Youth and the practice of Sport.

Similarly, the Vice Rector of Infrastructure of the UMU María Belén López thanked the City Council of San Javier and the Autonomous Community for their collaboration as public institutions to carry out the works that will provide the Faculty with the necessary infrastructure.

The act of laying first stone, in which as usual a capsule with newspapers of the day, coins and other representative objects was buried, was assisted by the Dean of the Faculty, Jesús García, the General Director of Sports, Francisco Javier Sánchez, the Councilor for Sports, Sergio Martínez and the president of Santiago de la Ribera FC, José Antonio Pérez, the local club that had demanded the construction of the new field where they can now train the riverside team, among other guests as a group of students of the Faculty that also was encouraged to seal with earth and cement the first stone of the new field that will be ready for next summer.
