The 51st San Javier International Theater, Music and Dance Festival is interrupted for the first time in its history because of COVID-19 (15/04/2020)

The mayor of San Javier, José Miguel Luengo today announced the cancellation of the 51st edition of the San Javier International Theater, Music and Dance Festival scheduled for next August due to "the lack of certainty to face an event of this nature" .

Luengo pointed out that the evolution of the health alarm by the COVID-19 does not offer guarantees for the celebration of massive events in the coming months "and given this reality, we cannot make contracts and initiate the administrative files that the Festival requires."

Luengo admitted that "the postponement" of the 51st edition of the Festival is painful news for theater people and especially in San Javier where a single edition of the Festival has never been suspended in the last 50 years, although he sent a message of commitment to the sector cultural to continue working and innovating through innovative actions that are intended to be launched soon.

For the councilor for Cultural, David Martínez "today is a sad day for Culture in San Javier".

Martínez preferred to speak of a postponement and no suspension of the 51st edition of the Festival.

"A lot of work had been done on this edition and we want that to be the seed for next year."

Martínez acknowledged that in the current circumstances "we could not move forward with the Festival without knowing what will happen and what the next phase of the confinement will be like", in addition to the situation generated by the cancellation of tours, as has already happened with two international companies They were scheduled for this edition, as reported by the councilor and director of the San Javier International Festival of Theater, Music and Dance.

"The commitment and love of San Javier for Culture is known to all and if San Javier has canceled its Festival this year it is for a reason of force majeure such as preserving Health," said the mayor of Culture who recognized "that we are living a historical moment. "

However, David Martínez said goodbye, assuring that "we are not going to rest and depending on the circumstances we will work so that the flame of Culture does not go out in San Javier."
