The San Javier City Council will launch a municipal Food Bank (17/04/2020)

The mayor of San Javier José Miguel Luengo announced today the creation of a municipal food bank, to be presented next week, coordinated by the municipal Social Services with the participation of the Association of Civil Protection Volunteers, Cáritas Parroquial and the Niñito association Jesus.

José Miguel Luengo today highlighted the work of all the Social Services workers of the San Javier City Council at this extraordinary moment in trying to guarantee care for the people most affected by the current health and economic situation. He also announced that the City of San Javier works together with the Ministry and the educational centers of the municipality so that no student is left behind due to lack of means in this last stage of the course that starts this week after the Easter holidays.

In this sense, he explained that the City Council has made available to the centers its means to contact students who do not have a telematic connection and to send the works that teachers send to students. Mayor José Miguel Luengo assessed as "optimistic" the health situation in Area VIII Mar Menor where income at the Los Arcos hospital continues to increase with two people in the ICU and two in the ward.

Luengo also wanted to highlight the work being carried out by family doctors through the Health Center with home monitoring of people with non-serious symptoms "which has allowed the hospital not to collapse." The mayor recalled the phone number 900 12 12 12 to call when suspected of having symptoms of infection before going to the hospital. As every Friday, the mayor of San Javier participated today in the weekly meeting that President Fernando López Miras holds with the 45 mayors of the Region of Murcia.

Sharing experiences and solving doubts and concerns is the objective of this videoconference in which the desire of all the mayors to face with guarantees this health crisis that is also economic is highlighted, said the mayor who recalled that in addition to the measures that the Municipalities can adopt within their powers, other regional and state competition measures are also claimed, aimed mainly at the self-employed, commercial and business sector. The mayor of San Javier recalled that the City of San Javier is committed to dealing with what is truly important at this time is to follow the health recommendations and try to cushion the economic damage in the municipality.

For this, he recalled, next week's Plenary, with the unity of all political groups, will approve a modification of the Budget, which contemplates a reduction of three million euros by giving up a series of income with which it is intended to inject liquidity in families and economic sector.

The first measures taken in this regard have also involved the cancellation of all events scheduled for the coming months, including the Summer Festivals.
