The RafaPuede, second prize of the VII foundation "technology awards break barriers and overcome." (04/03/2016)

The RafaPuede Foundation of San Javier has been awarded the second prize of collective category in the VII edition of the "Breaking Barriers Awards. Technology and Overcoming".

Toshiba, Microsoft Spain and BJ Adaptations these awards recognize the most creative and innovative in the use of assistive technology as a tool for autonomy, learning, recovery and social integration and employment of people with disabilities initiatives.

The RafaPuede Foundation presented this year the project also titled 'RafaPuede Foundation', which shows the research work carried out in 3D printing for the development of myo-electric prostheses at low cost and other initiatives based on assistive technologies .

Since its inception in 2007, "Breaking Barriers Awards" are a reference in the field of assistive technologies for disability and have awarded more than 50 projects, selected from over 200 nominations submitted by institutions and individuals.

In this edition, besides the murciana foundation, have been awarded the Special Education Centre Jean Piaget de Zaragoza, ranked first in the category of collective projects, with its innovative use of new technologies for learning;

and Maribel Camacho and Miguel Angel Picó, first and second in the individual category.

The winners prizes worth more than € 20,000, including checks on technology systems support BJ Adaptations and a computer or tablet Toshiba, to continue with their projects will be distributed.

The seventh edition of the "Breaking Barriers Awards", which broke its participation record, has had two modalities: collective and individual.

In total, there have been 21 projects or initiatives, four in the individual category and seventeen in the collective.

The winners were selected from 15 candidates who obtained the greatest number of supporters in the popular initial online vote through the website of the awards and Facebook, and in which more than 20,000 people participated.

The four winning projects were selected by a jury composed of representatives from Toshiba, Microsoft, Umbrella Solidarity and winning projects in previous years.

In its ruling, the jury highlighted the high level of the 15 finalist projects, both in quality and technological innovation, and its ultimate impact on improving the autonomy of groups or persons to whom they are addressed.

The awards ceremony will take place in Barcelona on April 7, 2016 and will be attended by personalities from the world of technology and disability, as well as representatives of the organizing companies and various public administrations.

Other winners

In the individual category, the first prize went to Miguel Angel Camacho 9, with the project 'Moving forward with Miguel'.

In it, Miguel shown how, thanks to technology support, can grow, learn, play and develop as a child's, despite its great limitation on the physical level, as a result of a muscle disease called mipoatía nemaline.

The second award was for Maribel Stang, affected with cerebral palsy, who in his project 'Technology, improvement and willpower are the ingredients for happiness' shows how, thanks to technology adapted, has been studying, writing and publishing some books.

They have received special mention by the jury Eva Lagar, for the project 'The technological life of Eva' and Paula Riera, by 'Warrior Princess'.

Meanwhile, the Center for Special Education Jean Piaget of Zaragoza has been awarded the first prize in the collective mode, the project 'SuperPiaget'.

This shows the potential of technology to expand opportunities for their students, in terms of social integration and performing everyday tasks
