San Javier shows'tesoros' its Historical Archive in'Ventanas exposure time' (06/04/2016)

The general director of Cultural Heritage, Maria Comas, and Councilman of Culture of San Javier, David Martinez, presented today the exhibition 'Windows to the time: Treasures of the Historical Archive of San Javier', which will be shown to the public execution of 1796 over the ownership of a plot, which was recently acquired by the city and provides important information about the locality.

Maria Comas said that exhibitions such as organized by the municipality of San Javier "represent a major initiative to encourage citizens knowledge of the history of the region and the vital importance of the preservation of documentary heritage better understanding".

Executory eighteenth century

Among the documents that make up the exhibition highlights the final judgment, or judgment of the court of the Royal Chancery of Granada, 1796 concerning a dispute between Jesualdo Riquelme y Fontes (Lord of Guadalupe and patron of the sculptor Francisco Salzillo) and Antonio Lucas and Celdrán (Marquis of Beniel and Campillo and perpetual alderman of Lorca) for possession of some land in the Plaza de San Javier.

This document was recently acquired by the town of San Javier at auction and contains valuable information for local historical research.

It is the oldest in the bottom of the Municipal Archives, and that the City was founded in the nineteenth century and the earlier material is kept in the General Archive of the Region.

The grounds of the documented issue are some lots located where today the City Hall building is located.

In addition, the executory provides information about the owners of houses and plots situated in and around the square throughout the eighteenth century.

The text reflects socio-economic aspects of the town, as types of crops, customs buying and selling houses, customs and judicial procedures, payment of taxes and church property.

It also contains two levels of the square and the people.

Other documents

'Ventanas al tiempo' show other historical documents of the documentary, most of which have never been exposed on the city hall building, the government and the municipal administration of San Javier, municipal services, culture and festivities of the town .

Also, to contextualize the 1796 execution of three original documents and a reproduction granted by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport, which are now preserved in the General Archive of the Murcia region are exhibited.

A census of the unique contribution of San Javier to prepare the 'Cadastre of Ensenada' (1771), a map of the estate 'Hoya Mice' (around 1781), the deed of sale of a house of Maria Teresa Riquelme and Arce, Turrets and Marchioness of Corvera (1878), and playing a square plane, atrium and facade of the church, extracted from another lawsuit Chancellery of Granada (1791-1795).

The curator of the exhibition is the municipal archivist, Luis Lluch.

It will open on April 8, at 19:00 pm, with a lecture by Professor of Modern History at the University of Murcia, Francisco Chacón Jiménez, entitled '1796.
