San Javier enriches its historical archive with a document of 1796 prior to its incorporation as a town hall (06/04/2016)

The municipal archives of San Javier has enriched their funds with a new document, the oldest of which custody so far, based on a judgment of 1796 that ends the dispute of two particular on the property of the site that currently occupies the Town hall.

Councillor for Culture, David Martinez and Luis Lluch municipal archivist, accompanied by Director General of Culture, Maria Comas, who stressed "the interest of the City of San Javier to preserve their documentary heritage," presented this morning in the House Diaz- Cassou of Murcia, the historic document, which was recently purchased at auction by the City of San Javier.

At the same event, also she attended by the director of the General Archive of the Region of Murcia, Rafael Fresneda, presented the exhibition "Windows to the time: treasures of historical archive of San Javier" with which will show the public the new acquisition together with documents themselves and others assigned by the Regional Archives, in the lobby of City hall from April 8 to May 2.

Luis Lluch said the new acquisition, which consists of a book of 176 pages and two planes of the town square, only by date and with explanatory captions, is an enforceable, or sentence, of the Royal Chancery of Granada, dated 1976 concerning a dispute between Jesualdo Riquelme y Fontes and Antonio Lucas Celdrán, both belonging to the Murcian nobility and large landowners in the region, for possession of a plot in the Plaza de San Javier.

Councillor for Culture, David Martinez highlighted the value of the new document for researchers who study the history of San Javier, offering valuable information on owners, socioeconomic aspects, planes and people, considering that litigants bring ancient scriptures date back to 1720, even before the formation of the native population center of San Javier.

Happy arrival of "this documentary gem" will be celebrated with an exhibition called "Windows to the time: treasures of historical archive of San Javier" which will feature three original documents and a reproduction provided by the Regional Archives that contextualize the new document, as is a pattern of 1796, a plane of a piece of currently unknown town and called "Hoyo Mice," which would be located between Pozo Aledo and Roda, the deed of sale of the Marquise de Corvera your home to city Hall to adapt as Hall and reproduction of a map of the square.

Several windows also show historical documents kept by the municipal archives grouped by subject and dedicated to its town hall, the Government and municipal administration, municipal services for residents, and culture and festivities in San Javier.

Councillor for Culture, David Martinez took the opportunity to invite neighbors and anyone interested to attend the opening of the exhibition which will start at 19: 00h.

Friday April 8 with the conference "1796. A date at the time of the creation of the City of San Javier", by Francisco Chacon, Professor of Modern History at the University of Murcia and director of the Foundation Center for Historical Studies and Research local Region of Murcia.

A brief presentation of the exhibition will give way to the theatrical tour with historical figures who will guide the public.
