A "monster wipes" 350 kilos causes the overflow of a collector in San Javier (11/10/2016)

City Hall and the water company launched a campaign last summer so that citizens do not throw the toilet wipes

A huge wipes cap has kept on alert for nine hours Hidrogea staff in the municipality of San Javier.

The water company has had to mobilize all their technical and human resources to draw from a manifold located on Airport Road, 350 kilos of wipes that had been overflowing sewage.

After receiving a warning, Hidrogea operators moved to where the incidence was found that the collecting and transporting wastewater to the WWTP (industrial water treatment) had overflowed and invaded part of that road.

To find the location of so-called 'monster wipes' operators use a pressure hose and then begin the cleanup.

But what a simpler atranque anticipated became a complex operation by the large number of wipes that had accumulated and the strong pressure that carries water.

The work to remove the wipes were extended for nine hours because force prevented the flow quickly remove the cap and moved to the next well, which was finally retained.

The cleaning trucks removed the water from the road while waiting for the water level in the sump and wells descend, in order to get the rest of the plug: A huge monster 350 kg of wipes thrown to the network sanitation through the toilet.

In the cleaning and involved three trucks Unbolt cleaning, a brigade of civil engineering and a mixed machine.

In addition to nearly a dozen people, including technicians, foremen and workers, who at all times were coordinated with the Municipal Services staff.

A collector is not a dump

Wastewater from San Javier are transported to the treatment plant through a manifold 600 mm in diameter, which states in its route of wells, whose function is to facilitate the maintenance of driving.

Despite its large capacity, the collector is not prepared to carry that amount of wipes, tattered, dabbing just driving and causing such damage.

The network atranques sanitation by this malpractice (wipes NEVER be thrown into the toilet) are causing serious problems in sanitation systems, not only in Spain but worldwide.

More than 170 associations and entities operating urban water services from 14 countries including the US, Canada, UK, France, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, the Netherlands, Belgium, Ireland, Luxembourg, Malta meet, Estonia and Spain have adhered to the Declaration of positioning the sector, unfit for disposal by the toilet and those labeled as being suitable products.

55 new members of Spanish companies operating in urban water services, among which is HIDROGEA and its subsidiaries Aguas de Lorca, Aguas de Jumilla, Aguas de Cieza and Sermubeniel hanproducido recently.

The signatories of this Declaration intended to prevent environmental and economic problems caused by obstructions and damage to equipment sewage systems and wastewater treatment plants.

More specifically, Hidrogea along with the City of San Javier, last summer launched an awareness campaign to prevent wipes the toilet to be thrown.

more than three thousand leaflets and stickers on beaches, markets, bars and restaurants were distributed with the aim of raising public awareness that the misuse of wipes causes major breakages and atranques, both in the private network of homes and the public sewerage.
