The City of San Javier and the Polytechnic University of Cartagena will promote a Tourism Observatory (10/02/2017)

The mayor José Miguel Luengo received today at the City Council of San Javier the rector of the Universidad Politécnica de Cartagena (UPCT), Alejandro Diaz, with whom he held a meeting in which it was agreed to increase the collaboration between both entities.

During the meeting, which was also attended by the Vice Chancellor of Innovation and Enterprise, Alejandro Pérez and the Councilor for Public Services, María Dolores Ruiz, agreed to promote the creation of a tourism observatory to study and promote the arrival of visitors.

The observatory will be led by researchers from the Faculty of Business Sciences and will be nourished by the work of future students of Tourism, whose degree is pending re-implantation at UPCT.

The representatives of both entities also agreed to start developing a strategy to promote and promote the practice of nautical sports in the Mar Menor, through sustainable nautical activities.

One of the objectives of the meeting was to generate opportunities for work practices in the municipality and in the City Hall itself for the students of the town who attend some degree in engineering, architecture or company sciences in Cartagena, to which the City Council Has committed by offering paid internships to students of all grades offered by the UPCT.

The Rector transferred to the Mayor the existing possibilities offered by the University in transferences of knowledge that researchers of the Polytechnic can contribute to the City and local companies to solve environmental problems, energy efficiency or related to the development of the " Smart city "or smart city.

Other topics included the possibility of holding days and summer courses, as well as workshops and exhibitions of the Unit of Scientific Culture and Innovation of the UPCT to promote scientific and technical vocations among students of secondary schools in the municipality .

In terms of information, the City Council will support the UPCT with an information point in which the University can promote the studies that it imparts.
