The cycle of lectures "Las Encañizadas de San Javier and the fruits of the sea" will claim the historical and environmental value of a unique artisanal fishing system (05/06/2017)

The Mayor of San Javier, José Miguel Luengo Gallego presented today, World Environment Day, the cycle of conferences "The Encañizados de San Javier and the fruits of the Sea", to be held in San Javier from June 13 to 28, organized By the Municipal Archive and the Department of Environment, "to make known an environmental and cultural jewel of more than six centuries of our municipality, something unique and not sufficiently known."

The cycle of conferences is part of a more ambitious project that seeks to recover as an eco-tourist attraction, because of its historical, cultural and environmental value, this artisanal fishing art dating from the Arab era that is active in the Encañizada Of La Torre which is intended to add Ventorrillo currently in disuse, in collaboration with the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia, explained the mayor.

The Director General of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Aquaculture, Carmen Teodora Morales, who closed the presentation of the cycle of conferences in the hall of the City Council said, in this regard, that the Ministry of Water, Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries "shares With the City Council the need to preserve the legacy of the Encañizadas ".

The director general announced that her department already works on a list of prescriptions to draft the recovery project of El Ventorrillo, whose objective would have room in the EDUSI Strategy of the regional government and in the financing of the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund.

José Miguel Luengo presented the cycle of conferences that will address the history of Encañiz from historical, cultural, commercial, environmental and anthropological perspectives, which will start on June 13 with the inauguration of the exhibition "Las encñizadas en la historia de San Javier: six centuries of artisanal fishing ", with documents from the Municipal Archive and photographs of Joaquín Zamora, from which an advance could be seen during the presentation today.

On June 14, Pedro Martínez, biologist and author of the recovery project of the Encañizada de La Torre, will talk about "The Enchanting of the Mar Menor: sustainable fishing and protection-recovery of biodiversity".

The historian Laureano Buendía will address in his conference of June 16 "The Encañizis of the Mar Menor: tradition and conflict (centuries XVII-XIX).

On June 22, fishermen José María López "El Ruso" and José Cánovas "El Canovillas" will remember in a colloquium their experiences in the Encañizadas.

The tenant entrepreneurs of the Encañizada de La Torre, Sinforoso and Tomás Albaladejo will contribute their commercial perspective on the only Encañizada in operation.

All the conferences will take place in the Museum of San Javier at 20:00.

In the same act two models were presented, one of the Mar Menor and another one of the corrugated one of the Tower, work of Jorge Imedio and its son, of the same name, that are exposed at the entrance of the City council.

The mayor also announced other publicity actions on the Encañizadas as the VI National Contest of Outdoor Pintural organized by the Ayuntameinto and that next September will be held in the Encañizada de La Torre.

Also in September, the "La Mar de Salazón" Conference is planned to give gastronomic content to the project, with the participation of famous chefs who will work with the typical products.

The Encañizadas have also arrived at the educational centers of the municipality through a murals contest organized within the program of the Environment Day whose winners were given today by the mayor and the director general Carmen Teodora Morales their awards.

The winners were Marta Peiró, Sara Saura and Irene Palazuelos, all 4 ° of ESO from the school "Sacred Heart", and Elisa Martinez, 4 ° of Primary of CEIP "Virgin of Loreto".
