Summary of the resolutions adopted by the Plenary held today, Thursday, September 14 (14/09/2017)

The plenary session of the City Council of San Javier today unanimously approved by all municipal political groups a motion presented by the Popular group to declare San Javier "Ciudad Solidaria con el Alzheimer".

The motion joins the initiative of the Spanish Confederation of Associations of Relatives of People with Alzheimer's and other dementias (CEAFA) with the aim of promoting awareness and social commitment to a problem that 800,000 people in Spain suffer.

The Councilor for Social Services, Estíbaliz Masegosa, who presented the motion, recalled that the municipality of San Javier already works alongside the Association of Relatives and Sick People of Alzheimer's and other Neurodegenerative Dementias of Cartagena and Comarca (AFAL) through a collaboration agreement that was signed in 2016 that has meant the assignment of a local to offer this service in the municipality with direct attention to those affected and the organization of numerous activities of awareness and inclusion of both patients and relatives and caregivers.

San Javier joins the European project "Eurovelo" of cycling

The Plenary held today approved a motion presented by the spokesman of the group Citizens-C's, Antonio Murcia, for San Javier to join the European project Eurovelo, promoted by the European Cycling Federation to promote bicycle tourism in Europe, which counts with the design of 15 routes, one of them, the number 8 by the Mediterranean.

The motion, which defends alternative tourism, agrees that the City of San Javier develops a plan that allows the municipality to achieve certification of a cycling network and urges the government of the Region of Murcia to develop Route 8 of Eurovelo, with its main branch along the coast of the Mar Menor, passing by San Javier, fixing the necessary investment in the budgets of 2018. It also asks the regional government to coordinate the branch of the smaller sea with that already exists between Murcia and Caravaca de la Cruz.

The motion was approved with the favorable votes of Citizens-C's, Socialist group, and of Ganar San Javier, and the abstention of the non-attached councilman and of the Popular group that through the councilman of Tourism showed its conformity with the bottom of the motion although pointed out that the project of the cycling route was already included in the investments planned through the European EDUSI funds in La Manga del Mar Menor, San Javier and the ITI del Mar Menor.

The non-attached councilman, Santos Amor, justified his abstention to consider priority new investments in the local bike lane.

The Plenary will request the urgent implementation of the Investment Plan in La Manga

The Plenum approved today, with the votes of the Popular group and the non-attached councilman, an amendment to the totality presented by the non-attached councilman, Santos Amor, to a Socialist group motion that urged national, regional and local governments to urgent implementation of investments in La Manga del Mar Menor, such as a promenade, sidewalks and bike path, improved traffic and medical service, and elimination of odors in sanitation in La Manga del Mar Menor, in addition to allocate a good part of the investments of the Mar Menor ITI to the environmental and landscape restoration of La Manga.

The approved amendment recognizes the need for investments but considers that they are already included in the 2017-2021 La Manga Revitalization Plan, through the Sustainable Urban and Integrated Development Strategy, EDUSI and the Mar Menor ITI. proposes to urge national, regional and local governments to urgently implement this investment plan in a coordinated manner.

Unlike the rejected socialist motion that proposed to allocate the investment of storm tanks to the creation of green filters, the amendment to the approved total asks the regional government "the greatest celeridad" in the construction of green filters in the surroundings of the Sea Smaller, not excluding storm tanks.

The Councilor for Public Services Maria Dolores Ruiz rejected the socialist motion to consider that "it is not appropriate, since many of these projects are already in process and others contemplated in the new investments of European funds."

Maria Dolores Ruiz also recalled the utility of storm tanks "whose purpose is to prevent the more abundant waste in the first stormwater from reaching the Mar Menor."

Ruiz said that despite the shortcomings "the local government has not stayed with the arms crossed" and listed the investments made in recent years for the improvement of all services in La Manga as sanitation with an investment of two million euros, as well as strolls, sidewalks, parks and improvement of public services without forgetting the raising of European funds by both the City Council and the regional government with a plan that will allow a millionaire investment in La Manga over the next few years.
