The winners of the National Architecture Competition for the remodeling of the Almansa Park are already working on the final project that includes new neighborhood proposals (10/11/2017)

The authors of the winning project in the Almansa National Park Architecture Competition, Miguel Martínez Castillejo and Pau Batalla Soriano, presented the details of it last night last night in the auditorium of the City Hall of San Javier, in whose hall they are exhibited during the month November the plans of the three projects that obtained Honorable Mention in the aforementioned contest.

The Valencian architects explained that they faced the idea of a new Almansa Park looking to give unity to the multiple factors that intervene in the whole environment without forgetting the available budget and the sustainability of the final result.

To blur the park's boundary with the city and increase the arboreal mass with native pine trees were other objectives of a project that sought "a flexible space that accommodates the entire age range, a space of coexistence and equality".

One of the main novelties will be the construction of a closed theater, something that was included in the bases of the contest and that will be built with 600 seats occupying part of what is currently the civic center.

For its construction, the current function halls will be demolished leaving the cafeteria area that will be joined by a pergola with the theater building, which will also house an area of multipurpose classrooms on the facade of Avenida Aviación.

The entire complex will be the object of a modernization of facades, which aims to improve energy efficiency, by using concrete in aesthetic relation with the auditorium located a few meters away.

The park will significantly increase its green mass, with different playgrounds, biosaludable areas, interactive fountains, modern skate facilities, and maintains the bowling lane.

The enclosure, with four entrances, will have different zones of walk, some with less density where to be able to read with tranquility.

The building of the auditorium will be stripped of some additions, and will open more to the park enhancing the use of the spaces that give to the enclosure.

The vehicles will definitively leave the park, although no parking is lost, which will occupy in battery part of the perimeter of the park, in Fernández Tudela street and part of Avenida Aviación, and to the car park that will be built in the current garden that occupies the Corner of Almansa Park to Garroferos Street.

The construction of the car park on Calle Garroferos was one of the modifications of the original project that will be included in the final project in which the architects are currently working along with other small modifications that serve the contributions made by different social groups.

Mayor José Miguel Luengo explained that this was a demand from the merchants' associations not to lose parking spaces in the center.

The Mayor of San Javier highlighted the spirit of citizen participation that has accompanied this project since its origins, included in the Strategy presented by San Javier to opt for European funds for Sustainable Urban Development, which was supported by Europe in the first call.

Luengo recalled that the remodeling project of Almansa Park will involve an investment of 3.5 million euros, within the strategy endowed with five million euros that will represent 80% of financing of the total investments to be made in the next years.

Luengo highlighted the historic role of Europe in the development of the municipality of San Javier up to the EDUSI funds, through which it is planned to finance other transformation works such as the Prince of Asturias Park, in Santiago de la Ribera, for which another architecture contest will be convened, as well as the Spanish aviation avenue.

The mayor thanked the collaboration of the Official College of Architects of the Region of Murcia in the National Architecture Competition which has been given the greatest possible transparency and which allowed 14 architecture studios from all over Spain to attend.

Luengo informed that the 2018 budget already includes the necessary items for the bidding and execution of the works in the Almansa park, the first of the EDUSI Strategy projects in San Javier.
