The Plenary Session of the City Council of San Javier has pronounced itself in favor of the claims made by the Community of Irrigators of the Campo de Cartagena to mitigate the effects of the water shortage that affects eight municipalities and about 10,000 farmers, through a motion presented by the Popular group that was supported by the Socialist groups, Ciudadanos-C's, the non-attached councilor, and one of the two councilors of the group Win San Javier, who asked for freedom of vote before the abstention position marked by their spokesperson.
The Plenary agreement translates into general support for the Community of Irrigators of Campo de Cartagena, farmers and their families, as well as their proposals to address the lack of water included in the Levantine Manifest for Water, among which the maintenance guarantee of the Tajo Segura Aqueduct.
The motion also includes other actions contemplated in the technical study of the Central Union of Irrigators Tajo-Segura, such as the modification of regulations that facilitate the processing of assignments of rights and the maximum possible production of existing desalination plants.
Other measures proposed by irrigators and supported by the Plenary are to advance the use of the reuse of treated water, complete a process of modernization of irrigation throughout the country, the execution of the necessary hydraulic works to ensure access to water in conditions of equality in Spain, and the implementation of a tariff for irrigation and homes fair and proportionate to the challenge of users of the Nation.
