The mayor of San Javier José Miguel Luengo and the Rector of the University of Murcia, José Orihuela signed today at the Faculty of Sports Sciences, San Javier, an agreement for the implementation of the permanent headquarters of University Extension of the UMU in San Javier, in an event that was attended by the Dean Arturo Díaz, the Vice Chancellor of Training and Innovation, Pedro Miralles, the promoter and director of the headquarters, Luis Conte, and the Councilor for Education of San Javier, Catalina Pérez .
After the signing of the agreement, which was held before the students in the Hall of Degrees of the Faculty, the mayor of San Javier, José Miguel Luengo said that "it is to formalize and advance the close relationship and collaboration between the municipality and the faculty".
Luengo highlighted the fact that the students of the Faculty have created a peña festera and the university party that they have organized within the program of the patron saint festivities on Thursday, November 30 "as proof of the involvement" existing between both institutions, beyond the institutional collaboration.
The headquarters of University Extension, which has been created so far in 32 municipalities of the Region of Murcia, will be the first to operate within a campus of the UMU, recalled its director, Luis Conte thanked the City of San Javier willingness to continue strengthening ties with the University.
Professor Luis Conte highlighted "the great cultural and sports offer offered by San Javier" to indicate the lines of action that in that sense will have the headquarters of University Extension through training activities, competitions, contests, conferences, conferences, studies and analysis , as well as other activities aimed at reaching all sectors of the population.
Open the University "that belongs to all Murcia" and promote continuous and permanent training is the ultimate goal of this initiative that will serve to boost university life and involve local society, said Rector José Orihuela who asked the Mayor for help urge the Autonomous Community to expand the available seats in the Faculty of Sports, whose high demand requires each year to raise the numbers clausus.
At the same event the future of the Faculty was discussed, both on new qualifications and future sports facilities for which the Rector again requested the help of the Mayor in order for the CCAA to contribute together with the UMU for its construction on the lands annexed to the School by the City Council of San Javier.
The mayor of San Javier, José Miguel Luengo advanced that the works in that sense are advanced and he was confident in being able to offer soon news in this regard, also referred to the new degrees, such as the Degree of Dance that is intended to establish in the Campus of San Javier.
The Dean of the Faculty of Sports Sciences, Arturo Díaz highlighted the fact that the San Javier headquarters is the first one that will operate within a university campus and the complementary offer that will be for the already important cultural and sports offer of San Javier.
