San Javier will have an access point for boats on the beach of El Atalayón to eliminate illegal anchorages in the Mar Menor (06/02/2018)

The project will involve an investment of 208,000 euros and will be co-financed by the Community and the European Union

The El Atalayón beach in San Javier, better known as the Ciudad del Aire beach, will have an access point for pleasure boats that will contribute to the elimination of illegal anchorages in the Mar Menor.

This action will consist in the installation of a ramp to facilitate users the operation of launching their boats into the water, so that they can have them stored on land and take them out to navigate with ease when they wish.

The counselor of the Presidency and Development, Pedro Rivera, accompanied by the mayor of San Javier, José Miguel Luengo, today presented the first access point of boats that will be enabled in the Mar Menor within the first phase of a pioneering project in the Region .

The act was also attended by the maritime captain of Cartagena, Óscar Villar, the head of the Demarcation of Coasts, Francisco Marín, and presidents of clubs of the federations of sailing, canoeing and nautical motorcycling.

Rivera stressed that the points of access for boats are "a priority action for the regional executive", which is part of the Plan for the Management of Mar Menor Uses promoted by the Community and which, among other objectives, aims to eliminate illegal moorings in the lagoon.

"Access points will make recreational or tourism uses compatible with environmental values by promoting responsible navigation," which, as Pedro Rivera said, "is practiced by the vast majority of users of the lagoon."

"We offer an alternative to irregular anchorage," said the counselor, who indicated that the process of choosing the points has been made by collecting the proposals of the different town halls, and after a classification process based on the difficulties of each one ( traffic in summer, viability of the ramp, availability of parking or environmental conditions, among others).

This project will involve a total investment of 208,000 euros, co-financed by the Community and the European Union, and already has a favorable report from the State Coastal Demarcation.

The Ministry plans to carry out the award of the works before summer and the performance before the end of the year.

characteristics

The access point for boats will be perpendicular to the coast, in order to occupy the minimum area of land, with a maximum width of six meters and a variable length that will depend on the needs of each area.

The ramp is composed of two sections of different material, it will be removable, it will be joined to each other by stainless steel rings and will reach the areas where uncooled sand exists and which could hinder the entry of vehicles.

The first section will be extruded plastic material recycled, partly submerged on the seabed to reach 0.5 meters depth, and the second will be an articulated walkway of prefabricated concrete.
