The San Javier wastewater treatment plant allows to reuse 100 percent of wastewater in quality water for irrigation (27/03/2018)

San Javier wastewater management allows the reuse of one hundred percent of the incoming flow in the municipal wastewater treatment plant as water for irrigation, surpassing even the regional average of 99.2, according to the data offered today by the Minister of Water, Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Francisco Jódar who visited, together with the Mayor of San Javier, José Miguel Luengo, the treatment plant from which 3.5 cubic hectometres of water for irrigation are released every year.

Councilor Francisco Jódar also highlighted the quality of the water that goes to agriculture thanks to actions such as the recent inner lining of the pipes of the wastewater evacuation network that runs along the Paseo Colón that has allowed, just as have been able to verify in today's visit, halving the conductivity of the water destined for agriculture, as well as avoiding any leakage from the network to the Mar Menor and vice versa.

The mayor of San Javier José Miguel Luengo thanked the regional government for its commitment to improving wastewater management and congratulated the councilor for this action in the renovation of the collectors "with which it has been possible to lower the conductivity and respond to an old claim from our farmers to improve the quality of the water that comes out of the treatment plant ".

Luengo pointed out that this is another example of "we continue working to take advantage of every drop of water available both from the Administration and the farmers themselves".

Councilor Francisco Jódar noted that the Region of Murcia is a global example in processes of reuse and percentage of water used as well as its quality, which is achieved, he explained, not only with regulatory procedures, but with new treatments such as tertiary , microfiltration and disinfection by means of ultraviolet rays, with which the San Javier treatment plant counts.

The reuse in the San Javier plant reaches even the sludge.

Francisco Jódar explained that the sewage sludge is reused as "excellent fertilizers" in agriculture and it contained in 2.8 tons the sludge produced by the San Javier station that goes to eight municipalities of the Region.

"This is a circular economy, here everything is used," added the counselor who toured the facilities of the San Javier station accompanied by the mayor of San Javier and the councilors of Agriculture, Sergio Martinez;

of Public Services, María Dolores Martínez and Urban Planning, Antonio Martínez.
