49th International Festival of Theater, Music and Dance of San Javier (03/04/2018)

Bailaora Sara Baras will receive the Prize of the 49th International Festival of Theater, Music and Dance of San Javier on August 24th when she will close the Festival with her latest show, "Sombras", with which she celebrates the twenty years of her company.

The presence of Sara Baras is part of the advancement of the program made by David Martinez, Culture Councilor and Festival Director, which will also include contemporary dance with the Canadian company Marie Chouinard and his tribute to the work of El Bosco, "El Jardín de the delights".

In the section of theater you can see two co-productions of the Classical Theater Festival of Mérida as "Ben-Hur", with the label of Yllana and adaptation of Nancho Novo, which opens the Festival on August 1, and "Las Amazonas" with address of Magüi Mira and with Loles León in an exception distribution, on August 15.

The 49th edition of the Festival that has not wanted to lose the replacement of "Quejío" by Sálvador Távora, the masterpiece of one of the most important contemporary Spanish playwrights, which will arrive on August 17, also surrenders to ancient music with "Dialogues Celtas ", the concert that unites the bagpiper Carlos Nuñez and the violagambista, Jordi Savall, on August 16.

The Festival will start on August 1 with "Ben-Hur", a montage based on the novel Lewis Wallace and the famous film starring Charlton Heston in a theatrical and comical vision performed by Eva Isanta, Agustín Jiménez, Elena Lombao and Richard Collins, among others, with adaptation of Nancho Novo and the unmistakable stamp of Yllana, in a co-production of the Festival de Mérida with Focus e Yllana.

On August 5 you will be able to see the impressive work of the Canadian choreographer Marie Chouinard at the head of her company, with whom she took on the task of the Jheronimus Bosch 500 Foundation, from Holland, to create a work based on the El Bosco painting "El Garden of Delights "on the occasion of its V centenary.

Known as one of the innovators of contemporary dance, the prestigious choreographer Marie Chouinard, performs without recreating the picture of El Bosco, with original music by the composer Louis Dufort, in a ballet that premiered in July 2016 in Madrid coinciding with the show that the Prado Museum dedicated to the Dutch painter "El Bosco, the exhibition of the V Centenario".

The actress Loles León is part of the cast of "Las Amazonas", which will arrive on August 15, along with Silvia Abascal, Olivia Molina, Laura Pamplona, ​​Maxi Iglesias, Xabi Murua and Karina Garantivá, directed by Magüi Mira.

The work that will premiere in July at the Festival de Mérida co-produced by the Festival and Pentación, recreates in a tone of humor Von Kleist's Pentesilea, about the feminine myth of warrior women who choose sex without love in order to procreate and Continue to increase the size of your tribe.

The 49th International Festival of Theater, Music and Dance of San Javier will offer the possibility of reviewing "Quejío" the first work Salvador Távora, one of the most creative and outstanding Spanish dramatists of the last 50 years in Spain.

The work premiered in 1972 and re-released in 2016, already contains the scenic force that characterizes the work of Távora, as rooted in the Andalusian tradition as far from the clichés.

With almost total absence of text, the drama of flamenco singing and dancing served Távora to reflect the oppression of the Andalusian proletariat in this mythical work of Spanish theater that will be seen in San Javier on August 17.
