Companies from León, Leganés, Elche and El Algar will compete in the II Amateur Theater Competition "Francisco Rubio", from San Javier (17/04/2018)

The Councilor for Culture, David Martinez presented this morning the II Amateur Theater Competition "Francisco Rubio" to be held from May 11 to 20, with the participation of four companies from Leon, Leganés, Elche and El Algar, and the group of San Javier Theater that, outside the contest, will close the Contest with the premiere of "Medea", in the version and address of José Antonio Navas.

David Martínez regretted having to select four of the nearly one hundred companies presented by the high quality of the proposals received from all over Spain.

The Contest, to be held at the theater of the "Prince of Asturias" center, in Santiago de la Ribera on two weekends, will give two prizes in cash, one of 2000 euros for the best work, and another of 800 euros for the best director, as well as four trophies for the best actor and best actress protagonists and cast.

On Friday May 11 will begin the Contest with Carafur and the Baranda, Elche, which will present "Presas", Veronica Fernandez and Ignacio del Moral.

The montage, which has already won several awards, recreates the stories of a group of women who opt for a pardon in a post-war Spanish women's prison.

On Saturday, May 12, Teatro Circo Apolo El Algar will present "El gran tacaño" signed by Antonio Paso and Joaquín Abati, a fun comedy that uses the social conventions of the time.

On Friday, May 18, the group Teatro Teatro, from Leon, will represent "With Carmen, Cinco momentos", by Sonia Martínez and Javier Bermejo, based on the famous novel by Miguel Delibes "Cinco horas con Mario", in which the widow reviews the time lived with her dead husband.

On Saturday, May 19, the contest phase will end with the company Menecmos, from Leganés and the play "Trío de Cuatro", a comedy by Ramón Silgado with machismo at the target of a casual and amusing critique.

After the awards ceremony to be held on Sunday, May 20 at 8:00 pm, "Medea" will be released in the version and direction of José Antonio Navas leading the theater group San Javier.

Navas, who attended the presentation along with other members of the local group, highlighted the validity of the work of Euripides that accompanies with contributions from other classics and his own.

The work, which includes a dreamlike part in which Medea confronts her memories, reflects how the disproportion of Medea's love can blacken the soul, explained Navas.

The mayor of Culture David Martinez noted the "illusion" put into this contest "because in San Javier we want the theater, we pay tribute to our origins, in reference to the origin of the current International Festival of Theater, Music and Dance, as an amateur contest, and we believe in amateur theater. "

Martinez highlighted the figure of Francisco Rubio, who gives his name to the Contest, as director of the theater group "Oscar 69" that 49 years ago was the germ of the current Summer Festival in San Javier that was born with an amateur character but soon transformed into professional.

The jury of the Competition will be composed of a representative from Murcia to Scene, another from the School of Dramatic Art;

Javier López, actor and one of the co-founders of the Festival with the group "Oscar 69";

the president of the theater group San Javier, Pepe Pardo;

the theater director Leonor Benítez, and he himself as councilor of Culture and director of the International Festival of Theater, Music and Dance of San Javier.

All the performances will take place at 9:30 p.m. in the theater of the "Prince of Asturias" center, in Santiago de la Ribera, with free access until full capacity is reached by removing the ticket at the box office before the performance.
