Emerging art returns to the streets of San Javier with the Imagina 2018 festival (20/04/2018)

Emerging art will return to the streets and public spaces of the municipality with the Imagina 2018 festival, organized by the Department of Youth and to be held from April 25 to 29 in San Javier with a total of 21 works that cover a wide range of disciplines artistic, ranging from photography to video art.

In this edition the guest artist will be the Murcian Juan José Martínez Cánovas whose work will fill the walls of the Museum of San Javier where on Friday 27 will be held the traditional meeting with all the participating artists who will play the band Atrezo music at the opening party It will be held in the courtyard of the Museum.

The Councilor for Youth Estíbaliz Masegosa, the general director of Youth, Fran Sánchez and the artistic director of Imagina 2018, Cristina Franco, presented this morning at the City of San Javier the Festival "which celebrates 15 years of young and vindictive art," noted the mayor of Youth.

Masegosa pointed out as main themes among the themes addressed by the selected works, homophobia, social networks, the role of women, with attention also to environmental issues such as the Mar Menor, which will be the protagonist of one of the artistic proposals of this edition .

The opening of Imagina 2018 will star, as in previous years, the association of people with mental illness, Apices, on April 25 at 11:30 am with the installation "Door to Door", in the building of Multiple Uses, the avenues Spanish Aviation.

This will be one of the locations of the Festival together with the Municipal Museum, Barnuevo beach, Euro Roda playground, municipal library, Plaza de España, Garroferos street, City Hall and Almansa Park.

Cristina Franco, who is premiering as the artistic director of Imagina 2018, highlighted the technical and professional quality of the 51 projects presented, some from countries such as Italy or Mexico, of which a total of 21 projects were selected, mostly from the Region of Murcia, although there are also other arrivals from Madrid, Barcelona and A Coruña.

Cristina Franco highlighted the youth and quality of the guest artist, Juan José Martínez Cánovas "of great versatility and refined pictorial technical technique" that will present a set of works focused on the human figure and the portrait, in graphite on stucco board, which can be seen in the Museum of San Javier.

The general director of Youth, Fran Sánchez guaranteed the support of the regional government "to the young creative movement of the Region of Murcia and therefore to a festival whose 15 years of life are not the result of chance".

The director general of Youth also highlighted the provision of public spaces by the City of San Javier, so that young artists can make their work known.

"You always have to come to San Javier but much more from April 25 to 29," said Fran Sánchez, referring to the art that will fill the streets and public spaces of the town on those days.

The Imagina 2018 Festival has published explanatory leaflets to follow all the participating works that have been distributed in public spaces of the municipality.
