The brotherhood of the Santísima Soledad del Mar Menor will premiere in Santiago de la Ribera next year (27/04/2018)

The mayor of San Javier José Miguel Luengo and the councilman of Culture, David Martinez have met at the City Council with the promoters of the first Cofradia of the municipality recently launched in Santiago de la Ribera, dedicated to the Blessed Virgin of the Mar Menor.

Its president, Antonio Aibar accompanied by the members of the board of directors, José Alberto Rodríguez and María Dolores Guillén, presented to the Mayor the project that emerged two years ago in a conversation of friends during the pilgrimage of San Blas.

Antonio Aibar explained that the still pro Brotherhood, has 70 Brothers and several anonymous donations such as two mantles and two skirts of chapel, a diadem, a heart with seven daggers and a rosary donated by the parish priest of Santiago de la Ribera, Juan Rosique, who supported the initiative from the beginning.

The Sevillian sculptor, Alejandro Ugarte works on the image of the Virgin with the carving of cedar wood, head and face with blue glass eyes and eyelashes of natural hair, hands and a foot, which are the elements that remain the view

The rest of the body, 1.70 meters high, will be chandelier lined in black damask.

The leaders of the Brotherhood advanced that the night of Holy Friday of 2019 will be the date of premiere of the procession that will cross the streets of Santiago de la Ribera with the image of the Santísima Soledad del Mar Menor, in throne under canopy, in the Sevillian style , followed by a body of penitents who will wear black with white details to those who want to print the character of seriousness and order that characterizes Easter Cartagena, explains Antonio Aibar.

The fact that there are local residents who procession in other places due to the absence of Holy Week processions both in the town and in the rest of the municipality, was what prompted a group of friends to found a Brotherhood that they decided to dedicate to a Virgin "for the power that transmits the feminine image processioning, and that had the blue eyes for the Mar Menor".

When they coincided with the relieving of the parish priest of the town, they waited for the arrival of the current one, Juan Rosique, who took the initiative to the Parish Council where it was well received.

On February 11, a first meeting was held in the Church of Santiago Apóstol where the Brotherhood was formed and from which the board of directors left with the approval of the 70 brothers who make it up for now.

The promoters of the Brotherhood asked for the collaboration of the City Council with this pioneering initiative in the municipality and made an appeal to all the people who want to join and be part of it.

The mayor of San Javier José Miguel Luengo congratulated the members of the board of directors of the Brotherhood for an initiative of which he was sure of his success and the social support he will have, convinced, likewise, that he may be opening the way in the municipality for other similar initiatives.
