The Plenum of the municipality of San Javier last night unanimously agreed to award the XIII Festival Internacional de Jazz de San Javier American musician George Benson "because of its importance for the history of jazz."
The awards ceremony takes place on July 25 during the George Benson concert offered in the auditorium of the park Almansa in San Javier, in the programming of this year's Festival.
The proposal for the award include among other merits, having been the author of best-selling jazz album in history, "Breezin '" and have helped popularize jazz and related music.
Winner of eight Grammys and recognized as a Jazz Master by the National Endowment of the Arts (NEA), George Benson, probably the best jazz guitarist in history, has worked, in his lengthy career with legends like Miles Davis, Freddie Hubbard, Quincy Jones or Herbie Hancock, among others.
As a vocalist his tenor voice has been compared to Stevie Wonder and Donny Hathaway, and its magnificent scats are one of his most famous trademarks.
In awarding the prize will be recalled that George Benson has performed at the Festival de Jazz de San Javier on several occasions, both as his own band with singer Al Jarreau, "showing no loss of quality in both professional and personal, showing accessible, caring, and very close to the public of San Javier "
