Volunteers collected more than 1,000 kilos of garbage seabed La Manga (04/10/2010)

The presence of plastics and other petroleum products such as PVC is still the main problem of our fund coastal pollution, said José Luis Balkazar, Balkysub manager, diving school in La Manga last October 2 held a cleanup day seabed in La Manga with the collaboration of the Department of Environment of the City of San Javier, and several neighboring communities of the cornice of El Estacio, like Puerto Escondido and Leader.

The 101 volunteers who participated in collecting litter the seabed of the beaches, of which 52 were divers managed to pull out a total of 1,025 kilos of waste of which 80 percent were petroleum residue "that fail to fully disintegrate, "said manager Balkysub.

Among the debris were also removed, remains varied from fishermen and boats, among other objects.

Environment Councilman of the City of San Javier, José Luis Espinosa, who was in charge of handing out diplomas to the participants, highlighted the increasing presence in this activity, conscious volunteers, non-diving school, Balkysub that has been organizing this activity for years and in recent editions has joined outside volunteers who contribute land cleaning and support to divers when counting and sorting the rubbish removed.

The shoreline clean-up campaigns organized by Balkysub are included in the annual report made by the Project AWARE, a non-profit organization that is responsible for promoting and encouraging protection activities in the marine environment between the global diving community.
