The British Association "Cancer Support Group" in San Javier inaugurated its second headquarters in Spain (26/11/2010)

The first deputy mayor, José Angel Noguera, the councilman of Social Services, María Angeles Mayor Chum and headman of Roda, Toni Mendez attended this morning the inauguration of the headquarters of the British Association "Cancer Support Group" at number 60 Avenida de La Union, San Javier.

The British consul in Alicante, Paul Rodwell was asked to officially open the second-Cancer Center Support Group (MABS) in Spain, after Javea in Valencia, explained Association President Jacqueline Phillips.

The association works for ten years without its own headquarters in the area with the involvement of dozens of people and over one hundred volunteers whose aim is to support and help of any kind to people with cancer.

"Our volunteers do everything for the sick, since any information about the disease and treatments, hospital visits and in homes to provide respite to the family or provide special beds, wheelchairs or walkers," explained President MABS Murcia-Mar Menor, Linda Baines.

The president of MABS, Jacqueline Phillips recalled that the site is dedicated to the memory of Jacqueline Howes whose photograph and name of presiding over the entrance.

Howes, was an English model who retired in Spain attracted by the sun and golf, but fell ill shortly after arriving and became the first patient seen by the then fledgling association.

Throughout his illness until 2007, when he died, was attended by people from the Cancer Support Group, an association to which he bequeathed part of his heritage.
