Algae invade northern beaches of La Manga because of the storm (25/03/2011)

The storm of recent days has drawn tons of algae on the beaches of El Pudrimel and El Estacio in the north of La Manga which have been flooded from the water line to the building.

The situation created by the great wrack algae that concealed all developments affecting the beach as Puerto Escondido, El Taray Pudrimel and Villages, but the residents of nearby neighborhoods also complain about the smell generated by decomposition.

Montesinos said his department will address the Coastal Authority and the Directorate General of the Environment, to act on the beaches affected "by this extreme situation" and also seek economic aid "as the city council and has no power or sufficient means to solve a case like this of a massive influx of algae. "

The mayor of the city councils Tourist regretted that "we are the face of government to citizens but have no powers in this case to remove algae and make practicable a beach."

The Councillor for Tourism and Beaches, Jesus Montesinos described the situation as "extremely difficult because the tens of neighborhood complaints we are already receiving adds Easter is just around the corner."
