The Government of the Region of Murcia and Development signed a protocol for the development of civil aviation in the Community (16/11/2011)

The San Javier Air Base will be used for military aviation

The actions carried out will ensure respect for the legitimate interests of Aena airports as current airport operator and its employees at the airport of Murcia San Javier

The commitment is made ​​by the importance of aviation and air transportation for regional economic development

The Minister of Public Works and Territorial Planning of the Region of Murcia, Antonio Sevilla, and Secretary of State for Transport, Isaiah Táboas, have signed today at the Ministry of Public Works a protocol to establish the basis for development of civil aviation the Community.

The document commits both parties to promote and encourage, within the scope of their powers, the necessary actions to rationalize civil traffic, while respecting the legitimate interests of Aena airports as current airport operator and its employees at the airport in Murcia San Javier.

The protocol provides that civilian traffic in the Autonomous Community is made through the International Airport of Murcia, while the San Javier Air Base will be used for military aviation, except in cases of emergency.

Both institutions have reached agreement on the importance of aviation and air transportation to economic development in the Region of Murcia, as well as to meet the connectivity needs of citizens and businesses.

The Development Ministry is entrusted with the guardianship of the state trading company Aena Airport SA, who is responsible for the operation and management of airport services at airports managed by the Public Entity Aena, as well as civilian areas of air bases open to civilian traffic, among which is the San Javier Air Base.

For its part, the Autonomous Community has granted administrative concession AEROMUR for the construction and operation of the International Airport of Murcia, which were commissioned from the airport is scheduled for 2012.

The protocol signed today is the translation of the agreement reached in Seville and Táboas meeting held in Madrid on September 19 and is the result of numerous conversations held since then by representatives of the Ministry and the Ministry.
