The councilman of Tourism highlights the need to join efforts to preserve the Mar Menor as a natural resource (01/03/2012)

The Councillor for Tourism and Beaches Antonio Martinez Torrecillas believes that the meeting of those responsible for tourism councils of the Mar Menor with the director of the Spanish Oceanography Centre, José María Bellido, and the director general of Tourism Enrique Ujaldón, represents a decisive step in joint efforts to work for the maintenance of the Mar Menor and shows concern and decision performance not only of governments but of all sectors involved.

The mayor of Tourism, accompanied by the Councillor for the Environment of San Javier, Celia Martinez participated in the meeting held at the Oceanographic Institute of Lo Pagan, which addressed the Mar Menor from a scientific point of view "since our goal is to defend the Mar Menor as a peculiar and unique natural area and a tourist reference. "

Torrecillas Martinez explained that in this sense, the council has been holding meetings and work since last fall, with different partners "always with the same goal: to preserve the lake, involving all sectors involved."

The presence of jellyfish, or the effect that traditional agriculture or mining has been and continues to have on the Mar Menor, were some of the issues raised at the meeting of the proposals that came out of work.

The meeting agreed to set up sectoral working groups on technical and environmental issues affecting the Mar Menor making room for both entrepreneurs and scientists, researchers, and agency leaders involved.

All present agreed to carry out scientific awareness campaigns and environmental awareness on the Mar Menor.
